HomeMy WebLinkAboutCIV 1979-01-23 Minutes CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION ~ CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS January 23, 1979 CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Trotter called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room. ROLL CALL: COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT Leslie A. Trotter, Chairman William C. Moore Bill J. Betts Helen Cline, Civil Service Secretary OTHERS PRESENT Denuer Mills, City Councilman Lena Mae Reeder, City Councilwoman APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the meeting on December 12th were approved by a motion from Mr. Moore, seconded by Mr. Betts; voting was unanimous. AGENDA Item 2. Sick Leave Pay Upon Separation - Due to the absence of the Police Association representatives who had requested this item, Mr. Betts made a motion to table it until next meeting. Mr. Moore seconded the motion; the motion carried by unanimous vote. AGENDA Item 3. Considering Dental Coverage - Ray Hilton, of the Public Works Department expressed a desire to have dental coverage included in our medical contract for all employees. From that department the employees are ready to pay extra for the coverage, he says. Discussion was made as to whether the employees would prefer to have this coverage instead of an equal amount in pay increase. Ray will get more feedback and report to the Commission. The Commission instructed the Civil Service Secretary to research the cost of employee coverage and also coverage for dependants. Mr. Betts made a motion that the Civil Service explore and look into the possibility of getting dental care for the employees and dependants as soon as possible. Mr. Trotter seconded the motion; voting was 2"for"; and 1 "opposed". ~ Minutes of 1-23-79 Page 2 AGENDA Item 4. Handbooks for Employees - The Commission reviewed sample handbooks and chose one to use as a guide in making up new books for all employees. NEW BUSINESS: Denver Mills presented an item for consideration. He pointed out that upgrading the position of switchboard operator would be very beneficial to the City. Other duties such as newsletter were discussed and could be included in the job description. The Commission will revise the specifications to allow development of employees to their full capacity. Suggested salary was about the same as Clerk II. The Council requested also, that the Civil Service Commission study the City Charter and submit their recommended changes in the near future.
