2. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Kathy Luppy moved to approve the minutes of the March 25, 2008 meeting:
Holly Bullington motioned to approve the minutes. Doris Tipps seconded the
motion and the minutes were accepted as written.
3. Keep Texas Beautiful Conference
Debbie York handed out copies of the Conference materials to everyone.
Several of the items in the material were discussed with Debbie York and
Kathy Luppy as they have attended before. They suggested that, if possible,
everyone attend at least part of the conference to see what it is all about.
There is money budgeted to pay for registration. If anyone is interested, they
are to contact Debbie York by 5/25/08 for her to register them.
4. School Recycling Contest
Debbie York handed out copies of a school recycling education program that
she had researched. The Committee discussed the various aspects of the
program, which includes activities for several different grade levels along with
a reward system. It was decided that everyone would study the information
and bring suggestions and ideas to the next meeting on 6/17/08. At that time,
Kathy Luppy suggested that the Committee finalize a specific program for
NRH schools. Debbie York advised that money for the rewards might have to
come in part from sponsorships and that any other funding would have to
have City Council approval .She will work up an estimate of the cost of the
program and present the program to management. There was discussion on
how to get teachers more involved. Kathy Luppy advised that probably the
best way to do that is to do a presentation to the principals at their meeting in
July. The winners at each grade level could be presented at a Northeast
Tarrant County Chamber luncheon, at a BISD School Board meeting or at a
City Council meeting.
5. Staff Report
Regarding the "Keep NRH Beautiful" Governor's Achievement Award
Project", Debbie York reported that TxDOT has placed all landscape and
many road projects on hold for bidding as they resolve their overall statewide
funding situation. TxDOT has confirmed that funding for the project will not
be withdrawn. However, project delays are expected to continue.
Presentation of the Yard of the Month award at the Council meetings will
follow the below schedule:
May - Kathy Luppy
June - Holly Bullington
July - TBA
August - Diana Madar
Kathy Luppy asked the members to please let Debbie York know if they will
not be able to attend the June meeting, so it can be rescheduled if necessary.
Kathy Luppy adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
