Call to order Chairman Kathy Luppy called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful Commission at 5:45 p.m. on November 17, 2009 in the Neighborhood Services Office. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 Neighborhood Services 7200-C Dick Fisher Dr. S. 5:45 p.m. Roll Call The following persons were present: Commission Members: Kathy Luppy Donah Tyner Jay Garner Dianne Spradling Holly Bullington Doris Tipps Darla Batchler Chairperson Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member The following person was absent: Justin Welborn Staff Members: Debbie York Joyce Fister Alternate Member Neighborhood Services Mgr. Secretary 2. Approval of minutes from last meetins~ Kathy Luppy moved to approve the minutes of the October 20, 2009 meeting. Holly Bullington motioned to approve the minutes. Dianne Spradling seconded the motion and the minutes were accepted as written. 3. Discuss Keep America Beautiful Certification Process Debbie York advised that she is working on this project but it is very time consuming. She will pick it up again after the Holidays. 4. Review Green Campus Applications The Commission reviewed the applications for the Green Campus Awards. All entries were approved. The following schools will receive the award which will be presented at the January 25~h City Council meeting. The Academy at C.F. Thomas Green Valley Elementary Smithfield Elementary Snow Heights Elementary Walker Creek Elementary North Ridge Elementary Smithfield Middle School North Ridge Middle School 5. Review Recycle More School Art Contest Packets Packets will be emailed to each commission member for their review. Kathy Luppy will set up a meeting with BISD. The room at the Library has been reserved and entries may be displayed in Lobby. Kathy Luppy advised that the Commission may want to start earlier next year in working on contest. Debbie York would like to send out "save the date" to principals and possibly teachers advising that the contest will be coming up in January. Holly Bullington suggested that the Commission host an open house in late September or early October next year, possibly at the Library, for Enviro Chairs, teachers and PTA representatives. Information will be posted on the BISD website. Joyce Fister advised that she is setting up an email distribution list for all teachers in the eligible schools so that emails can be sent out with information, as well as reminders. The teachers will also be able to post the information on their individual websites. Will not be using U-tube this year for high school entries. 6. Staff Resorts Red aprons have been ordered for use at the Night of Holiday Magic. Debbie York made some extra KNRHB shirts available to members who do not have one. She advised members that they can purchase shirts on their own and the Commission will reimburse them and have them embroidered with the logo. The Holiday Lighting judging will take place on December 5, 2009. Members are to meet at Neighborhood Services offices at 5:00 pm. They will then go to the Olive Garden for dinner. Debbie will email list of last year's winners to members. 5. Adiournment The meeting was adjourned by Kathy Luppy at 6:45 pm. Minutes approved by: Kathy Lu y, C ai n
