Meeting Minutes
1. Call to order
Chairman Kathy Luppy called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful
Commission at 5:55 p.m. on January 19, 2010 in the Neighborhood Services Office.
Roll Call
The following persons were present:

2. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Kathy Luppy moved to approve the minutes of the Nov. 17, 2009 meeting. Minutes
were approved as written.
3. Develop Governor's Community Achievement Award Application
Debbie York distributed copies of the Governor's Community Achievement Award
Application to members. Each member will take a section to review, as listed below,
and get back to Debbie by 1/26/10 with any suggestions for changes.
Leadership/Coordination - Holly Bullington
Education - Kathy Luppy
Public Awareness - Doris Tipps
Litter Prevention & Cleanup Darla Batchler
Littler Law 8~ Illegal Dumping Enforcement - Jay Garner
Beautification & Property Improvement - Diane Spradling
Solid Waste Management - Justin Welborn
Summation - Debbie York
Application must be submitted by 2/9/10. Debbie advised that Candice Simmons
from the Animal Shelter is working on the scrapbook.
4. Review Environmental Education Awards Application
Suggestions for changes: If the same school applies this year that was awarded last
year, someone from Commission visit the project to see results. Also, schools will
be advised that someone from Commission will visit the proposed project sights
before decision on awards is made, to review it and to make any possible
suggestions for improvement. Also, the project will be reviewed after completion.
Projects should be sustainable.
Doris Tipps will be presenting the Green Campus Awards at the City Council
meeting on 1/125/10.
5. Discuss Recycle More School Art Contest
Debbie York advised there is a lack of responses to the program so far. She had
received forms from 1 class so far. She did verify that the teachers received the
emails she had sent out. Kathy Luppy stated that she believes the Commission has
done all that it can and will just have to see the results. Debbie York advised that
she had offered to print the forms for the teachers if they wanted her to. Debbie will
send out a reminder email. Commission discussed ways to get the word out to the
High School students. Debbie said that she had send emails to the Media teachers
a couple of times and no response. Kathy suggested meeting with the High School
principals to explain program and get suggestions. Debbie York and Doris Tipps will
meet with them. Information cannot be sent directly to the students from the
Commission.
Yard of the Month will be discussed at next meeting on 2/16/10.
5. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned by Kathy Luppy at 6:45 pm.
