HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2010-04-22 MinutesMINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS HELD IN THE LIBRARY BOARD ROOM LOCATED AT 9015 GRAND AVENUE Present: Kay Schmidt David Nelson Avis Crisp Don Tipps Kathy Antropik Absent: Jerry Sorenson Mary Shilcutt Mike Madar April 22, 2010 Chair Vice-Chair Board Member Board Member Alternate Board Member Board Member Board Member Staff Present: Steve Brown Library Director Kelly Preston Administrative Secretary CALL TO ORDER Chair Kay Schmidt called the meeting to order April 22, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the March18, 2010 meeting were approved as written. LIBRARY USAGE AND STATISTICS REPORT Circulation is up 14% over the same time last year. Hennen's American Public Library Ratings released their 2008 ratings. North Richland Hills Library was rated third in Texas for libraries serving populations of 50,000 - 100,000. Adult Services staff has been heavily weeding outdated non-fiction titles. Texas Book Consignment has been selling the books online. Revenue from the sale of used books is projected at $9,000. The pavers on the sidewalk coming into the Library were replaced after they shifted. Another sidewalk in front of the Library shifted up causing the entry door to stick open. After taking core samples of the soil, the Facilities and Construction Department is now working on plans for replacing the sidewalk. The Library is now on the new version of the automation system and continues to serve as a test site for Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Todd Humble and Margaret Ragus attended the Innovative User's Group Conference in Chicago this month. Margaret will be receiving basic training on the automation system. OVERVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF BUDGET REQUESTS FOR FY 2010-11 Steve Brown updated the Board on the proposed budget for FY 2010-11. The current year's budget is $1,912,924, and the target budget for FY 2010-11 is $1,854,414. Funds from the library donations account will be used towards the $58,510 difference. REPORT ON TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE The TLA conference was held in San Antonio this year. Steve Brown, Liz Brockman, Todd Humble, and Karen Raborn were all in attendance. Topics included frontline advocacy, the futuristic library, and library website design and functionality for people with handicaps.
