Call to order In the absence of Chairperson Kathy Luppy, Diane Spradling called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful Commission at 5:45 p.m. on August 17, 2010 in the Neighborhood Services Office. Roll Call The following persons were present: Commission Members: Staff Members Dianne Spradling Doris Tipps Donah Tyner Holly Bullington Debbie York Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Neighborhood Services Mgr. The following persons were absent: Kathy Luppy Justin Wellborn Chairperson Commission Member 2. Approval of minutes from last meetina Doris Tipps moved to approve the minutes of the July 20, 2010 meeting. Minutes were approved as written. 3. Governor's Communitv Achievement Award Proiect Debbie York informed the members that TXDOT has not approved the use of the median on Boulevard 26 near the old North Hills Mall for the site for the GCAA project. A meeting will be set up with TxDOT and City staff to discuss this further. Commission members submitted drawings for a possible monument sign and suggested plant materials to be used for the design. 4. Communitv Garden Update Dianne Spradling presented the idea of sponsoring a piece of art approximately 3' x 4' to be framed for display in the Common Ground Community Garden. Dianne introduced Artist Sharen Chatterton. Sharen told the group that she would be wiling to donate her time to do the painting in exchange for exposure for her work in the form of links to her web site and press. Sharen stated that the cost of the supplies is less than one third of the cost of this piece if it were commissioned. Sharen showed a preliminary sketch of the design that she would like to propose for the art. Supplies will include hardy back board, acrylic paints, sealer and Plexiglas. Motion by Dianne Spradling and second by Donah Tyner to expend up to $700.00 to pay for materials and supplies needed to produce the art to be used in the Common Ground Community Garden. Motion approved. 5. Environmental Education Awards This item will be discussed at the next meeting. 6. BISD PTA and Teacher Outreach The members discussed ways to make teachers and students aware of Keep NRH Beautiful programs. Dianne Spradling volunteered to contact BISD PTA to try to get on their board agenda or their meeting with the school principals. Another option discussed was to go to each PTA meeting to share a short summary of the school programs that Keep NRH Beautiful sponsors. 7. Residential Enerav Efficiencv Fair Members agreed to have a table at this event to share information about Keep NRH Beautiful. A schedule of volunteers will be set at the September meeting.
