Call to order Chairperson Kathy Luppy called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful Commission at 5:45 p.m. on October 19, 2010 in the Neighborhood Services Office. Roll Call The following persons were present: Commission Members: Staff Members Kathy Luppy Dianne Spradling Doris Tipps Donah Tyner Holly Bullington Justin Wellborn Debbie York Joyce Fister Chairperson Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Commission Member Neighborhood Services Mgr. Admin Secretary The following persons were absent: Terry Higgs Perry Christenson Commission Member Alternate 2. Approval of minutes from last meeting Kathy Luppy moved to approve the minutes of the Aug. 17, 2010 meeting. Minutes were approved as written. 3. Governor's Community Achievement Award Proiect Joe Pack, Parks Dept, gave update on plans for this project. He reported that the plants for the previous Award would be completed within 2 weeks. He was the landscape artist on that program and will work on the new project, if Commission chose to use him. The selected area is South of 820 on Blvd. 26. He gave the following suggestions: Make it inviting to both pedestrians and cars, add color with something more than just flowers, and don't include anything that requires regular maintenance & any lights should be solar. Once the Commission submits their requests to Joe, he will submit them to TX -Dot. Kathy Luppy stated that she would like to see some sort of plaque or sign or something that acknowledges the KNRHB Commission's work and dedication in winning the award. 4. Communitv Garden Uadate Diane Spradling gave an update on the status of the new Community Garden. Scheduled to have basics set up on 11/6/10. She suggested that the Commission sub knee pads, which will be kept in the shed, with the KNRHB logo. 5. Environmental Education Awards Applications for the awards are due to the Commission on 1/7/10. They will be reviewed at the January meeting and the winners will be announced at the January City Council meeting. Debbie will send out the applications on 11/1/10. 6. Recvcle More School Art Contest Kathy Luppy announced that Keep Texas Beautiful will be at her school with their cartoon characters to promote anti - littering. All entries for the contest are due 2/12/10. U -tube will used this year for the videos. 7. Holidav Liahtina Awards It was decided that the judging would be a little later this year in order to have more competition. The judging will be held on 12/16/10, with the awards being give out at the January City Council meeting. Adiournment The meeting was adjourned by Kathy Luppy at 7.08 pm.
