CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Kusmierski called the meeting to order December 5, 2011 at 6:03 p.m.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW STAFF MEMBER, BRIAN CHAPIN
Ms. Sharon Davis, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, introduced Brian Chapin.
Brian has been hired as the new Athletic Coordinator for Parks and Recreation.

APPROVED
MR. NELSON MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 3, 2011 PARK AND
RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MR. FILIS SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 4-0.

NRH CENTRE UPDATE
Mr. Bill Thornton provided an update on the construction of the NRH Centre, which is
progressing on schedule for an April 2012 completion. Mr. Thornton also provided
current construction photos.
Ms. Sharon Davis provided an update on the membership drive for the new Centre.
Memberships purchased to -date, during the Tier 1 promotion, total 339. Ms. Davis also
reviewed some of the marketing promotions being used to promote the facility.

COTTON BELT TRAIL UPDATE
Mr. Bill Thornton provided an update on the repairs to the Cotton Belt Trail. The
contractor completed Phase 1, repair of 34 trail panels. Staff anticipates Council
approval for Phase II after the first of the year.

NRH2O 2011 SEASON SUMMARY
Mr. Chris Swartz provided an update on the 2011 season for NRH2O. Highlights
included:
• The Viper opened on Saturday, June 25
• Integrated a new point of sale system, Centaman
• Ranked #7 as one of the top ten waterparks nationally by Tripadvisor.com
(Ranked #3 of public waterparks)
• NRH2O saw their 4 millionth guest on Saturday, August 6th
• Set a record for single season attendance — over 270,000
• Set a record for single season revenue — over $4.6 million
• Set a record for single day attendance — over 6,000 on Friday, July 22
• Set a record for single season group sales and daily group tickets
• Issued zero "rain checks" for the entire season

CURRENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Ms. Sharon Davis, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, presented an update on
activities and events offered through the Recreation Center, Tennis Center, Senior
Centers and Cultural Arts.

Mr. Bill Thornton, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, presented updates on the
following capital improvement projects:
• Calloway Branch & Little Bear Creek Trails
• Davis Blvd Streetscape
