CaII to order Chairperson Kathy Luppy called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful Commission at 5:00 p.m. on March 20, 2012 in the Neighborhood Services Office. Roll Cali The following persons were present: Commission Members: Kathy Luppy Chairperson Doris Tipps Commission Member Holly Bullington Commission Member Justin Welborn Commission Member Staff Members: Debbie York Neighborhood Services Mgr. The following persons were absent: Perry Christianson Commission Member Latoyia Dennis Commission Member Dianne Spradling Commission Member Donah Tyner Commission Member 2. Approval of minutes from last meeting Kathy Luppy moved to approve the minutes of the February 21, 2012 meeting. Minutes approved as written. 3. Review Boulevard 26 Landscape Design Joe Pack, with Parks and Recreation presented the design for the Boulevard 26 median just west of Loop 820. This project will be funded by the $270,000 award granted to the City from TxDOT for landscape improvements. Joe explained that his primary design consideration is sustainability and the fact that this area is an important gateway to the City. The plant materials chosen are native or well adaptive to reduce water usage. The colorful design is derived from stone retaining walls, paving and numerous blooming plant material. Joe presented a detailed design with examples of the different plants. The KNRHB members were very impressed with the design. Kathy Luppy asked that a sign /plaque be placed in the landscape stating that the improvements were made possible by the programs of the KNRHB Commission in 2010. Joe asked that staff provide the design for the plaque and that it will be included in the project. P 4. Judge Recycle More School Art Contest Entries Entries were received from twelve (12) BISD schools. The judging was difficult because of all the excellent entries. One winner was chosen from each category at each school. Staff will contact the teachers of the winning students and present the gift cards to them. The winning bookmark and cloth bag designs will be printed on those items. The bookmarks and bags will be distributed to the classes of the students who did the winning designs. The names of the winners will be provided to BISD and NRH Communications for publication. Kathy Luppy asked that this contest be put on the April meeting agenda for evaluation.
