LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
December 1, 2005
BOARD PRESENT: Polly Brinkley, Norma Lewis, Mary Shilcutt, Kay Schmidt, Avis
Crisp, Janet Ball, Jane Birkes Absent: Kathy Antropik
STAFF PRESENT: Steve Brown, Library Director
CALLED TO ORDER: 7 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were recorded on October 20, 2005 and transcribed later on
August 5, 2008.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT — Steve Brown
Circulation is higher than last fiscal year, but they have not reached the heights of the two previous
years when library materials budgets were able to sustain higher use levels. On December 1, 2005,
The North Richland Hills Library will begin offering Live Homework Help, an online tutoring service
designed to help students with their homework.
DISCUSSION AND REVIEW OF LIBRARY DESIGN PROGRESS
Design work continues on the new library. The process is nearing the end of the schematic design
phase, during which the basic shapes and sizes of the interior layout of the library are determined.
The next meeting was scheduled January 19, 2006.
DISCUSS ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES FOR MANAGING RETRIEVAL OF LONG - OVERDUE
LIBRARY MATERIALS
The library Circulation Division has always worked in close partnership with Municipal Court to secure
the return of long- overdue library materials. Due to changes in Court procedures, the Board
discussed alternative approaches to retrieving lost books. The Board reviewed approaches that
other libraries in the region have used.
DISCUSS STAFF HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
The Board will plan a holiday luncheon for Library staff on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at noon.
ADJOURNMENT
The next meeting date was set for January 19, 2006.
