3. Discuss Projects /Programs for Remainder of Year
Kathy Luppy and Latoyia Dennis gave a brief report on the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference they
attended in June, 2012. They reported that the group Vocal Trash performed at the Conference
and Kathy suggested that the Commission consider sponsoring a visit to North Ridge Elementary
School. She will check with Vocal Trash on scheduling, cost and venue for the performance. She
estimates the cost to be about $1500 for 4 performances on a single day. It was suggested that
the concerts be scheduled in May due to testing in the schools. The Commission decided that the
schools to be selected would be from a drawing of all of the Green Campus schools. Fourth and
fifth grade students would attend.
There is a grant available from HEB Grocers (HEB Green Bag Grant) that Latoyia volunteered to
complete. If approved, there would be up to $2,000 available to pay for the Vocal Trash concerts.
The application is due in September. All plans for the Vocal Trash performances are contingent
on receiving the grant funds.
Kathy also suggested that the Commission look into purchasing some short videos that are
targeted for children. She viewed some of them at the Conference. She is following up on more
details.
Debbie York advised she will be on vacation on Sept. 18, 2012 meeting so the Commission
decided to change the date to September 25, 2012.
