HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2012-02-23 Minutes MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS HELD IN THE LIBRARY BOARD ROOM LOCATED AT 9015 GRAND AVENUE February 23, 2012 Present: Don Tipps Board Member Avis Crisp Board Member Kay Schmidt Board Member Karen Alexander Board Member Jerry Sorenson Board Member Absent: Mary Shilcutt Vice -Chair Mike Madar Board Member Kathy Antropik Alternate Staff Present: Steve Brown Library Director Kelly Preston Administrative Secretary CALL TO ORDER Chair Don Tipps called the meeting to order February 23, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the January 19, 2012 meeting were approved. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Circulation numbers increased over the same time last year mainly due to an increase in number electronic resources checked out. Circulation of print materials remained stable. There were over 100,000 catalog hits on the Library's website during the month of January. Redesign of the Library's website is nearing completion. Staff is working on a few technical issues with page transitions. The Library added a new level of access the Star Telegram online. This new service gives researchers access to full -text, searchable articles in the newspaper from 1990 through current. The number of libraries that opened in the U.S. increased 2% between 1999 and 2009, and the number of library outlets increased 3% during the same time period. The NRH Centre grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 a.m. Construction of the walkway adjoining the Library and NRH Centre continues. Plaques with selected quotes will soon be installed along the walkway. REVIEW AND CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE PLAN OF SERVICE Steve Brown reviewed the goals and objectives of the Plan of Service with the Board. Steve will make final revisions to the Plan of Service before the Board considers adoption at the March 15 meeting. UPDATE ON BUDGET OUTLOOK Budget kickoff for FY 2012 -2013 will be held March 8. City Council approved 2% merit raises for all full -time and part -time City staff. DISCUSS 2011 CITIZEN SURVEY RESULTS Steve Brown gave a presentation over the results of the 2011 citizen survey. The sample size was larger this year than in past years. In late 2011, 3,500 randomly selected households in North Richland Hills were asked to evaluate city services. 98% of respondents rated library services as excellent or good.
