Call to order Vice Chairperson Dianne Spradling called to order the meeting of the Keep NRH Beautiful Commission at 5:45 p.m. on October 16, 2012 in the Neighborhood Services Office. Roll Call The following persons were present: Commission Members: Doris Tipps Commission Member Latoyia Dennis Commission Member Justin Welborn Commission Member Holly Bullington Commission Member Dianne Spradling Commission Member Donah Tyner Commission Member Staff Members: Debbie York Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister Admin Secretary Neighborhood Services The following persons were absent: Shannon Juarez Commission Member Kathy Luppy Chairperson 2. Approval of minutes from last meeting Dianne Spradling moved to approve the minutes of the August 21, 2012 meeting. Minutes approved as written. 3. Review Green Campus Award Applications The following school applications were reviewed and all were approved for the $150 Green Campus Award. Birdville High School North Ridge Elementary Smithfield Elementary School Snow Heights Elementary North Ridge Middle School Smithfield Middle School The Academy at Carrie F. Thomas Holiday Heights Elementary 1 of 2 The Commission discussed ways to improve the application forms and the requirements. Ideas mentioned were: • Raising points required to win the award to encourage schools to continue to add to their programs rather than just listing the same ones each year. • Make it mandatory for each school to have an Adopt -A -Spot in good standing in order to qualify. • Award a large trophy to the school with the most points which will move from school to school each year. • Clarify that curriculum related education does not qualify. • Points will no longer be awarded for collections other than those which recycle used clothing. Toys for Tots, Bunny collections, etc. will no longer apply. • Possible Bonus points for the Environmental Education Grants. 4. Discuss Holiday Event Schedule Debbie York asked if the Commission wanted to participate in the Night of Holiday Magic on Dec. 1, 2012, working the train again. Justin Welborn made a motion to approve the participation and Holly Bullington seconded the motion. The motion was carried unanimously. The following schedule was tentatively set up: 4:00 pm — 5:00 pm - Doris Tipps and Dianne Spradling 5:00 pm — 6:00 pm - Donah Tyner and LaToyia Dennis 6:00 pm — 7:00 pm - Holly Bullington and TBA 7:00 pm — 8:00 pm - Justin Welborn and TBA The Christmas Lights judging will be at 5:00 pm on Dec. 16, 2012.
