CITIZEN COMMENTS 3-a. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE 4, 2012 MEETING APPROVED MR. GREENE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE 4, 2012 PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MR. PENA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5-0. Page 1 of 4 3-b. ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR MS. TIPPS MOVED TO NOMINATE MS. MARTY KusMIERSKI FOR THE POSITION OF CHAIR. MS. COMPTON SECONDED THE MOTION MS. TIPPS MOVED TO NOMINATE MR. MARLIN MILLER FOR THE POSITION OF VICE CHAIR. MS. COMPTON SECONDED THE MOTION. With there being no other nominations Chair Kusmierski closed nominations and called for the vote. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5-0. 4-a. NRH CENTRE PUNCH LIST ITEMS AND LANDSCAPING REPLACEMENT PLAN Mr. Joe Pack, Senior Park Planner, presented an update on punch list items and the landscaping replacement plan for the NRH Centre. The dying plant material is under warranty and will be replaced by the contractor once cooler weather arrives. 4-b. NRH CENTRE OPERATIONS UPDATE Ms. Sharon Davis, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, provided an update on the operations of the NRH Centre and included the following: • Members to -date 8,953. • NRH Centre celebrated 100 days of operation on July 23. • Swimming Lessons to -date: Attendance 570, Revenue $38,252. • Birthday Parties to -date: 108, Revenue $22,650. • Group Fitness Revenue to -date: $35,865. • Grand Hall Bookings completed to -date: 37, 68 scheduled through June 2013 and 315 leads for possible bookings. • Senior Center attendance averaging 155 a day. • NRH Centre attendance averaging 1,200 per day. • NRH Centre's automated door should be installed soon. 4-c. NRH CENTRE WEBSITE REVIEW Ms. Tina Earle, Communications/Events Manager, presented the new website for the NRH Centre which went live in August. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON CURRENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES Ms. Sharon Davis, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, presented an update on activities and events offered through the Recreation Center, Tennis Center, Senior Centers and Cultural Arts. • NRH Centre Aquatics — Swimming lessons are going strong with ages up to 80+. • NRH Centre has 17 different fitness instructors. • 2012 Camp NRH concluded on August 10. • NRH Centre hosted its first youth volleyball clinic on July 28. • NRH Softball will conclude its summer season at the end of August. The league has seen an increase of 21 teams. • The NRH Centre is going green with the printing of the Fall 2012 "Discover" Brochure. Only 8,000 brochures will be printed and will be available at the NRH Centre, City Hall and the Library. The brochure is also available on the city's website and the NRH Centre website. • NRH Senior Center offering Flu Shots through Tom Thumb. • Emerald Hills Rehabilitation is offering health seminars at the Senior Center. • Richland High School began their fall practices at the Tennis Center at the end of July. • Richland Tennis Center will be used as a site for the Southlake Tennis Center's Mid Cities Circuit Tournament. • Staff is working on developing new cultural arts events for the fall and 2013/ • Stormy Salsa Dance Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. at Stormy Plaza. 5-b. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS Mr. Joe Pack, Senior Park Planner, presented updates on the following capital improvement projects: • Calloway Branch & Little Bear Creek Trails • Adventure World Playground Renovation Public Input Meetings 5-c. AQUATIC PARK MANAGER'S REPORT Mr. Chris Swartz, Aquatic Park Manager, presented an update on the 2012 operating season at NRH2O. Highlights included: • Year to date revenues are up 2.16%. • Dive In Movie —Jaws: Rescheduled to Friday, August 10. • NRH2O is collecting school supplies to benefit BISD District PTA. Park and Recreation Board Minutes August 6, 2012 Page 3 of 4 • iPod Shuffle give away — August 9 NRH2O will give away an iPod shuffle every hour. • Fireworks on Saturday, August 11 at dusk • NRH2O's Facebook Fan Page has over 11,000 "likes". 6. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS Ms. Vickie Loftice introduced Suzy Compton who has been appointed to the Park and Recreation Board by Councilwoman Rita Wright-Oujesky in Place 2. The Parks and Recreation Department was recently awarded the "Innovation in Design" Award for the NRH Centre by the DFW Area Parks and Recreation Director's Association. The Park and Recreation Facilities Development Corporation will hold a public hearing on August 27 at 6:15. Brad Green noted that he will not be able to attend due to a school board meeting. 7.
