CITIZEN COMMENTS 3-a. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 4, 2013 MEETING APPROVED MR. CRANE MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 4, 2013 PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MR. FILIS SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5-0. Page 1 of 4 3-b. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 6, 2013 WORKSHOP APPROVED MR. PENA MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 6, 2013 PARK AND RECREATION BOARD WORKSHOP. MR. FILIS SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5-0. 3-c. ELECTION OF VICE CHAIR Due to the passing of Marlin Miller, the Vice Chair position is vacant. The Board is requested to elect a Vice Chair to fulfill the remainder of Mr. Miller's term through August 2013. MS. TRACYE TIPPS MOVED TO NOMINATE MR. MIKE FILIS FOR THE POSITION OF VICE CHAIR. MS. COMPTON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5-0. 4-a. YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS ANNUAL REPORTS Phillip Perdue and Shannon Jaggars of the Richland Youth Association (RYA) presented their annual report to the Park and Recreation Board. 4-b. UPDATE ON NRH CENTRE Ms. Adrien Pekurney, NRH Centre Manager, provided an update on NRH Centre activities, programs and performance indicators, highlighting its one year anniversary. Ms. Tina Earle, Communications/Events Manager, provided an update on rental activity and programming at the Grand Hall. 4-c. DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED PARK BOARD CALENDAR Marty Kusmierski, Park Board Chair, presented an update on the initiative to raise funds for the NRH Parks and Recreation Scholarship Fund through the development of a community calendar. The calendar will highlight NRH Parks and Green Spaces with a photography contest which will be themed "Your Favorite Parks or Natural Spaces". A Park Board workshop was held on March 6 to discuss the project. Park and Recreation Board Minutes April 1, 2013 Page 2 of 4 5-a. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON CURRENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES Ms. Sharon Davis, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, presented an update on activities and events offered through the NRH Centre, Tennis Center, Senior Center, Grand Hall and Cultural Arts. Highlights included: • NRH Centre One Year Anniversary, Mayor's Walk, NRH Centre Ambassadors • Family Fun Swim Night • Camp NRH Spring Softball Registration • NRH Senior Center Spring Health Fair • Parks and Recreation Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon • 2013 Sounds of Spring Concert Series Ms. Davis also highlighted the promotion of David Webb to Tennis Center Manager. David replaces Charlotte Wylie, who recently retired. 5-b. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS Mr. Bill Thornton, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, presented updates on the following capital improvement projects: • Calloway Branch & John Barfield Trails • Adventure World Playground Renovation • North Electric Trail & Cotton Belt Trail Drainage Projects • Governor's Community Achievement Award Project • Iron Horse Golf Course Erosion Control Phase I and II 5-C. NRH2O FAMILY WATERPARK UPDATE Mr. Chris Swartz, Aquatic Park Manager, presented updates on the operations and maintenance of NRH2O Family Water Park. Highlights included: • Hiring for the 2013 Summer Season • Marketing Initiatives • Library Partnership — Summer Reading program • NRH2O Long Range Plan Park and Recreation Board Minutes April 1, 2013 Page 3 of 4 6.
