APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 5, 2013 MEETING
APPROVED
MS. SPRADLING MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 5, 2013 PARK AND
RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MR. FILIS SECONDED THE MOTION.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON
CURRENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Ms. Adrien Pekurney, NRH Centre Manager, presented an update on activities and
events offered through the NRH Centre, Tennis Center, Senior Center, Grand Hall and
Cultural Arts. Highlights included:
• NRH Centre completed its first full year of operations with 6,055 membership
types sold and is expected to recover approximately 90% of operational costs.
• Group exercise classes at the NRH Centre recorded 20,000 participants.
• Adult Softball increased 31 percent for FY12/13.
• "Round the Town with Oscar" held its last ride of the year on October 3.
• Run, Run, Rudolph Family Fun 5K Run and Walk is scheduled for Sat., Dec. 7.
Proceeds will benefit the Animal Adoption and Rescue Center.
• NRH Senior Center Arts & Crafts Fair, October 18 & 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
• The Signal Art Program, "Hollywood Film Cowboys" is receiving positive media
and community attention.
• Stormy Salsa was canceled due to bad weather.
• Hoot n' Howl will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON
PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS
Mr. Joe Pack, Senior Park Planner, presented updates on the following capital
improvement projects.
• John Barfield and Calloway Branch Trails — The contractor celebrated its 100th
consecutive day of construction on the trail. Joe distributed current construction
photos illustrating the work that has been completed to -date. The trail is
scheduled to be completed in July, but the official ribbon cutting may be held in
September 2014.
• Adventure World Playground Renovations — Bids have been issued and are
scheduled to be received on October 16.
• Governor's Community Achievement Award Project — Replacement of plant
material on the south Blvd 26 median will be completed in early October. The
plant material and trees are under warranty.
• NRH2O Long Term Development Plan — Staff reviewed the analysis for the
Business Plan and forwarded comments to Brinkley Sargent Architects. Once
complete, the business plan will presented to the Park Board.

NRH2O FAMILY WATERPARK UPDATE
Mr. Chris Swartz, NRH2O General Manager, presented updates on the operations and
maintenance of NRH2O Family Water Park. Highlights included:
• NRH2O celebrated its third best revenue year finishing approximately 4.11
percent behind last year's record revenue season.
• Park attendance was down a total of 10.95 percent due to inclement weather
affecting day ticket sales.
• Wags and Waves was held on Saturday, September 21 with over 1,800
attendees (1,000 people and 730 dogs).
• NRH2O's Melanie Alline was awarded the Emerging Leader Employee of the
Year Award at this year's World Waterpark Association Symposium & Trade
Show. Melanie traveled to Florida to receive her award.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
Ms. Dianne Spradling updated the Park and Recreation Board on activities at the
Community Garden. Eagle Scout Troop #758 just completed a drainage project at the
garden. The Garden is holding a Junior Master Gardner Program with 29 kids
participating from Holiday Heights and Mullendore. They are teaming up with TCU and
also have two more scout troops looking for projects.
Ms. Loftice inquired about the Board receiving their agenda packets electronically and
everyone was in favor.
Ms. Loftice invited Park Board members to be a part of the Run, Run Rudolph planning
team and helping with the creative process.
The December Park Board meeting will include a review of the Parks, Recreation and
Open Space Master Plan as well as getting the Board's input on priorities.
Ms. Loftice announced that staff is developing a new Parks and Recreation Department
logo and a separate NRH Trails logo for branding and identification purposes.
Mr. Mike Filis announced that there is property available around the gas well at Graham
Ranch, about 10 acres, and it would make a great place for a playground.
