CALL TO ORDER
Chair Don Tipps called the meeting to order January 16 at 6:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Board Member Jerry Sorenson made the motion to approve the minutes; Board Member
Avis Crisp seconded the motion; the minutes of the November 21 meeting were
unanimously approved as written.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Cecilia Barham updated the board on the library's statistics from November and December.
REPORT ON WORK GROUP PROJECTS
Cecilia Barham updated the group on the progress of the staff work groups:
• Customer Service: Ms. Barham gave the group a review of the December
training held by this group and described the actions they were beginning to
take to implement the Signature Service document.
• Marketing, Outreach and Planning: Ms. Barham directed the group to the 2014
Spring Programs brochure included in their packet and gave a brief description
of each program and its events.
• Reader's Advisory: Ms. Barham described the purpose of this group in more
detail to the board and explained that the group is working on creative ways to
encourage book discovery. Ms. Barham noted that one project, New Book
Alerts, was live for use and will soon be featured on the library's website.
REPORT ON PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
Ms. Barham described the success of the Catching Fire program and noted that 41 teens
attended the event.
Ms. Barham also informed the group that the success of the National Novel Writing Month
writing programs have sparked the interest of adult patrons. Because of this, the library will
now offer a "writer's support group" called NRH W.R.I.T.E.S. twice a month.
Ms. Barham also described the success of the Food and Toys for Fines programs and
reported that the programs waived $12,155.44 worth of fines and over 6,500 items were
donated to charity.
OTHER BUSINESS
Ms. Barham updated the group on the status of the Friends of the North Richland Hills
Library. The organization has received its official non - profit paperwork from the state and
will begin to discuss fee structures and membership benefits at its next meeting.
Ms. Barham discussed with the group the upcoming active shooter training for library staff.
Ms. Barham gave a short demonstration of a new library service called IndieFlix. Ms.
Barham anticipates a late March roll -out of IndieFlix to library patrons.
NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting will be held on February 20, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Board Room.
