HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2014-03-20 MinutesMINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS HELD IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES LOCATED AT 9015 GRAND AVENUE Present: Don Tipps Avis Crisp Jerry Sorenson Kay Schmidt Kathy Antropik Holly Mitchell Absent: Karen Alexander March 20, 2014 Chair Board Member Board Member Board Member Board Member Alternate Board Member Staff Present: Cecilia Barham Library Director Christine Evans Administrative Secretary CALL TO ORDER Chair Don Tipps called the meeting to order March 20 at 6:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Sorenson remarked that he was not present at the previous meeting, as stated in the minutes. This change was noted and made. Board Member Avis Crisp made the motion to approve the minutes; Board Member Jerry Sorenson seconded the motion; the minutes of the February 20 meeting were unanimously approved with the aforementioned correction. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Cecilia Barham updated the board on the library's statistics from February. REPORT ON WORK GROUP PROJECTS Cecilia Barham updated the group on the progress of the staff work groups: • Marketing and Planning: Ms. Barham noted that this group is working to manage the upcoming spring programs. • Outreach Work Group: Ms. Barham informed the board that this work group has made contacts at BISD and have received permission to submit video ads for library programs that will be played in the morning announcements at each school. She described that this group is working on a creative video to promote Free Comic Book Day. Ms. Barham mentioned that this group is also doing research into how to have library materials included in new resident information packets and has contacted the Northeast Tarrant Chamber of Commerce to see about promoting library events on their website. • Migration Work Group: Ms. Barham remarked that a work group has been formed for the library's upcoming ILS migration. This group will help coordinate staff training, test the new software and make decisions related to the migration. REPORT ON PROGRAMS AND EVENTS Ms. Barham reported that during Love Your Library Month the library saw a total program attendance of 1200 adults and children. She also reported that 303 Valentines about why patrons love our library were submitted. Ms. Barham also informed the group that Children's Art Day was approaching and described the various activities that would be taking place. Ms. Barham also apprised the group that the library would be setting up a display of the history of the NRH Library for National Library Week from April 13 -20. TSLAC 2014 SPECIAL PROJECTS GRANT Ms. Barham updated the group on the status of the grant; it has been completed and was submitted on March 7. OTHER BUSINESS Board Member Kay Schmidt told the group of her idea for a time capsule at the new city hall building and suggested that the library staff manage the time capsule. NEXT MEETING DATE The next meeting will be held on April 17, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Administrative Offices.
