CALL TO ORDER
Chair Kusmierski called the meeting to order October 6, 2014 at 6:20 p.m

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 4, 2014 MEETING
APPROVED
Ms. COMPTON MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 4, 2014 PARK AND
RECREATION BOARD MEETING. Ms. SPRADLING SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 6-0.

MANAGING DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Save the Dates — Park and Trail Openings
• John Barfield Trail ribbon cutting —Thursday, October 9 at 1030 a m.
• Calloway Branch Trail ribbon cutting — Saturday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m.
Pickle Ball Takes Off - The NRH Centre is having an average of 40 people showing up
to participate in open play Pickle Ball. Pickle Ball lines have been added to the tennis
courts at Green Valley, Richfield and Northfield Parks.
Park Board Scholarships - Proceeds raised from Run Run Rudolph will benefit the
PARD Scholarship Program and the Animal Adoption and Rescue Center.
Hoot n' Howl - Hoot n' Howl will be held on Saturday, October 25. Staff will send out an
email to see if any of the park board members would like to volunteer to staff a booth or
be a judge for the costume contest.
NRH Trail Crossing - Additional signage and vibration strips are being considered for
the John Barfield Trail Road Crossing at Kirk Lane.
Mr. Russ Mitchell commented that the water does not appear to be working in the Linda
Spurlock Park restrooms. Staff will look into this.
Ms. Beverly Hunt commented about the algae in the HomeTown Lakes. Staff responded
that they have had one treatment completed and will keep an eye on it. The algae
should be receding as the weather cools.

TOUR OF THE COMMON GROUND NRH COMMUNITY GARDEN
Ms. Dianne Spradling, Park Board Member, gave a tour of the Garden and spoke about
the history and operations.
