1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Kusmierski called the meeting to order April 6, 2015 at 6:02 p.m.

3. ACTION ITEMS
3 - APPROVE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 2, 2015 PARK AND RECREATION
BOARD MEETING
APPROVED
MR. MITCHELL MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 2, 2015 PARK AND
RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MS. COMPTON SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 5 -0.

4. PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ITEMS
4 -a. YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATION UPDATES
Each year the youth sports associations provide an annual report to the Park and Recreation
Board on selected items outlined in the Field Use Agreement. Darren West, President of the
Birdville Area Youth Futbol Association, and John Ramsey, President of the Richland Youth
Association presented their annual reports.
4 - b. PARKS & RECREATION VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
The Parks & Recreation Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, April 8
at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Hall. This year there will be three Volunteer Legacy Awards
presented: Charles Edwards, Tim Earley and Don Tipps.
4 - c. SENIOR CENTER PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Ms. Jodi Griggs, Senior Center Supervisor presented an overview of programs and services
offered at the NRH Senior Center.
4 - d. PROPOSED 2015/16 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Mr. Bill Thornton presented a report on capital improvement projects proposed for
FY2015/16.
Proposed projects include:
Adventure World Shade Structures
First Phase — City Wide Trail & Route System Plan
Major Trail Rest Stations
Northfield Park Redevelopment
Park Maintenance Infrastructure
Park System Signage
RTC Infrastructure Maintenance
Trail Head Gateways
Walker's Creek Playground Renovation /Shade
Final approval and adoption will occur in September based on available funding and priorities
of Mayor and Council.
5. DEPARTMENT UPDATES
5.a. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS
Mr. Bill Thornton offered to answer any questions regarding the Parks Capital Projects
update included in the Park Board Packet. There were no additional questions.

5 -b. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON CURRENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Ms. Adrien Pekurney presented an update on activities at the NRH Centre, Athletics, Senior
Center, Tennis Center and the Grand Hall.
The NRH Centre will be celebrating its 3 anniversary in April 2015.
The 2015 Mayor's 5K Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 11 starting at 9:00 a.m. After the
walk there will be a presentation in the gymnasium by the fast paced Dallas Mavericks
Mascot team, Champ and Mays Man.
`Round the Town with Oscar monthly bike rides begin on Tuesday, April 7 at Cross Timbers
Park.
The NRH Poet's Corner Project is scheduled for Friday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Roots
Coffeehouse. Currently there are 15 authors scheduled to perform their original works.
The 2015 Sounds of Spring Concert Series begins on April 17 and runs through May 22. The
following bands are scheduled to perform:
April 17 Brave Combo
April 24 Memphis Soul
May 1 Me & My Monkey
May 8 Dale Watson
May 15 Petty Theft, plus opening act Jennifer Perryman
May 22 Buddy Whittington, James Hinkle and Jason Elmore
5 -c. NRH2O FAMILY WATER PARK UPATE
Mr. Frank Perez presented an update on activities at NRH
NRH has hired 354 seasonal workers to date.
Ellis and Associates awarded NRH2O the "Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award" for
the 2014 season. Only the top 10% of all Ellis and Associates clients achieve this award,
which is the highest award level possible. This is the 14 time the park has achieved this
award level over its 20 years of operation.
NRH is partnering with the Library to support their Summer Reading program. Readers
who reach 50 hours over the summer will receive a complimentary ticket to visit the water
park.
Registration for the NRH Music Festival, which will be held in May, is currently up 22%
compared to the same time last year. Staff anticipates over 17,000 kids attending the music
festival.
