DUAL CASE REQUIREMENTS—currently the highest classification offense goes to jury and the lesser cases
are assigned the minimum number of community service hours with 0 jury duties. How do we want to
handle the buying of community service hours when there are multiple cases?
The Board recommendation, and approval, was that students can only buy community service hours on
the highest classification offense, using the current guidelines. They will have to actually work the
community service hours given on additional cases.
SHOULD WE REQUIRE PARENTS TO ATTEND SENTENCING?—the concern is that our students that are 17
and older may be mis-informing and blaming their parents for the offense/citation.
The Board decided to table this issue until the next Board meeting so that research can be done on
whether or not we can really require parents to attend with their 17 year old (or older).
VOLUNTEER AMOUNTS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE—this issue came up when a student attorney
suggested that they get more community service hours than the 4 currently assigned because of their
status in the teen courtroom.
Board members voted to keep community service hours the same as they are currently.
