REGULAR COMMITTEE MEETING
1. CALL TO ORDER
Pam Burney called the meeting to order April 20, 2015 at 9:34 a.m.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 22, 2014 ANIMAL CONTROL
SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
COUNCIL MEMBER RODRIGUEZ MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 22, 2014
ANIMAL CONTROL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING. DR. FORD SECONDED THE
MOTION.
MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 4-0.
3. NEW ANIMAL ADOPTION AND RESCUE CENTER UPDATE
Chun Mezger, Animal Service Supervisor commented on the move to the new center on
April 6 with the soft opening on April 10.
Public Safety Director, Jimmy Perdue updated the committee on the overall project and
addressed some lingering issues that needed to be worked through. The AON unit (air
conditioner) is not circulating air exchange correctly. The contractor will be adding
`snorkle' type devices to the unit so that clean air will be pulled into the building.
Currently the unit has the intake and outtake openings right next to each other so when

the air (and odors) from inside the building were being pumped out — it came right back
into the building. There were also some drainage issues in the Get To Know Courtyard
that will be worked on after grand opening. The courtyard will be down for a few weeks
while that issue is repaired. There were issues regarding the noise level in the small
dog room. Mr. Perdue suggested adding more baffles in the room to absorb the noise
as well as provide ear protection for the staff.
Ms. Mezger stated that the grand opening for the new center is planned for Saturday,
May 2, 2015 and both Dr. Ford and Pam have agreed to speak at the event.
4. ANIMAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR'S REPORT ON LISTED ITEMS
Ms. Mezger informed the board that the division's name has been changed from
Humane Division to Animal Services to make it easier for the community to locate city
services. There will be other departmental/divisional name changes throughout the city
as well. Animal Services has also updated their uniform from a light gray polo and navy
pants to a dark gray polo and black pants. New features of the new center include two
entrances, three get to know rooms where potential adopters can meet with pets and
each room has its own air exchange.
Upcoming events include a fundraiser at Mountasia on May 16, 2015, Clear the Shelter
day on August 15 where adoption fees will be waived and the Doggie Beach Bash on
September 26.
5. ADJOURNMENT
DR. FORD MOVED TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AND COUNCIL MEMBER RODRIGUEZ SECONDED
THE MOTION.
MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 4-0.
