ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

01. Call Meeting to Order
Dr. Jed Ford called the meeting to order at 1:07 pm.
02. Approval of minutes of May 14,2014 meeting
Dr. Jed Ford motioned to approve the minutes from the last meeting from May 14, 2014
and Tito Rodriguez seconded the motion. There were no objections.
03. New Animal Adoption and Rescue Center Update
a. Fundraising Efforts
Chun Mezger shared with the board that staff had gone to every event they
possibly could to encourage people to donate and support the new shelter. Staff
set up tables at local hockey events and other city events. Information was given
to people about the pavers, sponsoring a room, etc.
The board was asked for additional ideas. Ideas such as more of a promotion on
social media and possible announcements at council meetings were suggested.
Staff took all these ideas into consideration.
b. Construction Update
Chief Jimmy Perdue provided the board with an update on the construction of the
new facility. Construction is moving along but due to some material issues there
is some delay in opening. The board was invited to tour the facility to see the
progress that has been made.
c. Grand Opening Update
Chief Perdue updated the board that the new grand opening is targeted for March
2015.
04. Humane Division Supervisor's Report on listed item—Chun Mezger
a. Animal Adoption and Rescue Shelter Fundraising Efforts
Chun shared with the board all the fundraising items available. There were pavers
starting at $100 up to $1,000 for the corporate ones; portraits for$500 and $1,000;
kennel sponsorships at $500 for 5 years and get to know areas for a$5,000
sponsorship.
b. 2014 Empty the Shelter Day Event
The Animal Adoption& Rescue Center participated in the first metroplex wide
free adoption event. It was very successful and there was a line of people outside
waiting to get in to take look. All the pets that the Center had vetted and ready
were all adopted.
c. 2014 Doggie Beach Bash Event
The first annual Doggie Beach Bash was a great success. There were over 800
people in attendance with over 500 dogs. The event raised over$10,000 for the
Animal Adoption& Rescue Center.

No objections. Meeting adjourned at 1:22 pm by Tito.
