HomeMy WebLinkAboutANI 2014-05-14 Minutes NORTH RICHLAND HILLS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD MEETING Wednesday, May 14, 2014 1:30 pm Present: Pam Burney Senior Director of Regional Services National Shelter Outreach, ASPCA Tito Rodriguez Councilman Dr. Jed Ford, DVM DVM Family Pet Clinic Absent: Jo Ann Stout Director, Neighborhood Services Staff Members(s): Jimmy Perdue Chief of Police Chun Mezger Humane Services Supervisor 01. Call Meeting to Order Pam Burney called the meeting to order at 1:34 pm. 02. Approval of minutes of January 14,2014 meeting Dr. Jed Ford motioned to approve the minutes from the last meeting from January 14, 2014 and Tito Rodriguez seconded the motion. There were no objections. 03. Shelter update Jimmy Perdue provided the Board with an update on the shelter project: • Construction is moving along on schedule. • Plans are that the building will be ready by December. • There were some cosmetic changes made here and there, but they were items that would be not be noticed by the public. • There are plans to purchase a new washing machine and dryer as opposed the previously proposed use of older units from another department. 04. Fundraising Update Chun Mezger provided the Board with an update on fundraising efforts: • Staff have been to several tabling events to promote the fundraising for the new shelter • Information tables have been set up at the Library and the Rec Centre promoting the pavers • Information was available at the recent Parks and Recreation Sights and Sounds events and that has brought in a few calls for support • Staff is open to suggestions from the Board as to ideas on how to get information out about the fundraising Tito suggested setting up a table at a Chamber Luncheon. Pam asked if we had the dollar amount raised so far—Chun responded that there was not one to report for this meeting. Jimmy informed the Board that he was reviewing the donation amounts set for some of the areas of donation. • Some areas were offered for too low of an amount and it was not clear as to the duration of the naming rights. • Pam said that she would research what the standard duration for name rights was and would contact Jimmy. 05. Waterpark Event Chun informed the Board that September 20, 2014 has been set for the Animal Adoption & Rescue Center to host a waterpark event where pet owners can bring their dogs out with them to enjoy a day at NRH2O. • Pam Burney was excited to hear that staff was hosting this event and not another group outside of the city. • The event is still in the early planning stages and Chun will update the Board as more information is available for this event. 06.
