01. Call Meeting to Order
Pam Burney called the meeting to order at 10:45 am.
02. Approval of minutes of July 25,2013 meeting
Tito Rodriguez motioned to approve the minutes from the last meeting from July 25,
2013 and Jo Ann Stout seconded the motion. There were no objections.
03. Update on vaccinating at intake
Jo Ann advised the board that the adoption center was now vaccinating at intake. Chun
Mezger reminded the board that at the last meeting, Dr. Jed Ford brought up his concerns
that we could not legally vaccinate animals at intake. Chun advised that City Council
accepted and approved an ordinance update to conform to Texas Occupations Code
801.004 that stated the shelter would the `designated caretaker of all animals in their
custody.'
04. Update on ASV Guidelines for proper air exchange
Chun reported to the board that the air exchange in the dogs rooms would be 10 cycles
per hour and 15 cycles per hour in the cat rooms.
05. Shelter Expansion Updates
Jo Ann informed the board that Chief Jimmy Perdue could not make it to the meeting to
provide them with the update. Jo Ann filled in for Jimmy by providing the updates.
• Council accepted and approved Modern Contractors as the contractors for the new
shelter project.
• Modern's original bid was $4.1 million but there were $515,000 in value
engineering (VE) items brought the price of construction down
• A copy of the VE items was provided to the board for review
• Pam was concerned about the new shelter taking a second hand commercial
washer and dryer without knowing the condition of the units.
Tito and Pam asked if Jimmy could email them additional updates on the new shelter as
well as a timeline, so that they can be kept in the loop.
Pam wanted it noted that she has never worked on a shelter project where the key people
responsible for the daily operations of the facility were not included in the design and
deduction meetings. She said that she did not understand why that occurred.
06. Adjournment
Jo Ann motioned for adjournment. Tito seconded. No objections. Meeting adjourned at
11:02 am.
