Chair Kusmierski called the meeting to order June 6, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

C.1 APPROVE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 18, 2016 PARK AND RECREATION
BOARD MEETING

PARK BOARD MEMBER MITCHELL MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 18, 2016
PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING. BOARD MEMBER PENA SECONDED THE MOTION.

D. PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ITEMS
D.1 NORTHFIELD PARK REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT STATUS UPDATE
Mr. Bill Thornton, Assistant Director, presented information on the status of the
Northfield Park Redevelopment project. A professional services kick off meeting
was held on May 5 with Dunkin, Sims, Stoffels to discuss the project. More than
2,700 letters were mailed out to notify residents, around Northfield Park, about
two public meetings which have been scheduled to gather stakeholder input. The
meetings are scheduled for June 20, at Life Church and June 28, at NRH City
Hall. Staff will present updated information at the next Park Board meeting in
August. Ms. Loftice commented that the Park Board will be presented with a
questionnaire at a future date so they can provide their input as well.
D.2 THEORY AND PRACTICE OF PARK MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS
Mr. Gary Bechthold, Parks Superintendent, provided a PowerPoint presentation
on maintenance and operations of the Parks Division. Mr. Bechthold referenced
the Division's mission and their adopted goals, objectives and performance
measures.
E. DEPARTMENT UPDATES
E.1 NRH2O FAMILY WATER PARK UPATE
Mr. Frank Perez, NRH2O General Manager presented an update on activities at
NRH Highlights include:
• NRH2O is celebrating their 22 season.
• NRH2O Music Festival drew over 20,000 guests.
• Dive -In Movie and Fireworks schedules announced.
E.2 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS
Mr. Bill Thornton did not provide a verbal report. No additional questions at this
time.
E.3 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT ON CURRENT PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES
Ms. Adrien Pekurney, NRH Centre Manager, presented an update on activities at
the NRH Centre, Athletics, Senior Center, Tennis Center and the Grand Hall.
Highlights include:
• NRH Summer Camp began the week of June 1.
• Preparations continue on the implementation of ActiveNet, the Centre's
new registration software.

• Family Movie Night is scheduled for Friday, June 10. In -n -Out will be on
site serving free cheeseburgers, chips and a drink while families enjoy
"How to Train Your Dragon 2 ".
• Summer softball begins the first full week of June with 94 teams
participating.
• Summer kick -ball begins on June 8 with 15 teams participating.
• The next `Round the Town with Oscar is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7 at
5:45. Mayor Betsy Price will join the ride in July.
• Senior Center volunteers are giving tours of the John Barfield Trail every
Monday & Tuesday during the month of June. The tours begin at
Northfield Park at 10:00 a.m. and take about 90 minutes to cover the three
mile trail.
• Northeast Tarrant Family 4 Celebration and Fireworks Show is
scheduled for Monday, July 4 at 5:00 p.m. This year entertainment will
include a performance by Derek Anthony and the D -Train Band. Fireworks
are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
• The Sounds of Spring Concert Series concluded on May 20. The 2016
Sounds of Spring was sponsored by the City of NRH, ISG /Insurance
Solutions Group, Life Church and Dallas Derby Devils.
• Amity Robbins has been hired as the full -time Sales & Marketing
Coordinator for the Grand Hall.
F. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
Ms. Vickie Loftice recognized Ms. Beverly Hunt, who is resigning her position on
the Park and Recreation Board effective June 2016. Ms. Loftice thanked Ms.
Hunt for her participation and presented her with a Certificate of Recognition
Plaque. Ms. Hunt commented that she had a wonderful experience and
expressed her appreciation for Mayor Trevino for giving her the opportunity.
G. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Kusmierski adjourned the meeting at 6:44 p.m.
