HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2016-11-01 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE NOVEMBER 1, 2016 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met on the 1ST day of November, 2016 at 5:45 p.m. in the Neighborhood Services conference room. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Sandra Totty Place 1 Amy Steele Place 2 Justin Welborn Place 3 Doris Tipps Place 4 Donah Tyner Place 5 Leslie Garvis Place 7 Absent: Mi'Shon Landry Alternate Staff Members: Debbie York, Asst. Director of Neighborhood Services 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 16, 2016 KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION MEETING. Amy Steele moved to approve the Minutes of the August 16, 2016 Keep North Richland Hills Commission Meeting. Justin Welborn seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 7-0. 3. WELCOME NEW MEMBER LESLIE(G'4RVIS. The members introduced themselves and welcomed Mrs. Garvis. 4. REVIEW GREEN CAMPUS/ ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION APPLICATIONS. Green Valley Elementary, North Ridge Elementary and Snow Heights Elementary were approved for the Green Campus Award. A check for $150. will be mailed to each of those schools. Discussion on asking schools not participating to remove and return the Green Campus signs. Environmental Education Grants were approved for Green Valley Elementary, Snow Heights Elementary and The Academy at Carrie F. Thomas Elementary. November 7, 2016 Page 1 of 2 5. REVIEW PROGRESS OF GOVERNOR'S COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD PROJECT. Debbie York reported that TxDOT has granted approval to develop the median inside Blvd 26 from the west bound IH 820 service road northward to the Davis and Bedford Euless intersection. In order to mitigate maintenance costs and safety concerns in the median, there will be some limited pockets of plantings with the rest being developed using several choices of hardscape. Approval has also been granted to develop a 30' to 50' perimeter edge east of Blvd. 26 under the Davis flyover for the purposes of screening the TxDOT maintenance facility from Blvd. 26 and helping to beautify the corridor. There will be an opportunity to develop landscape with screening shrubs hardscape and trees. 6. DISCUSS HOLIDAY EVENT SCHEDULE Members chose a one hour slot to volunteer at Night of Holiday Magic train ride. December 11 was chosen as the night to judge the Christmas Lighting winners. Members will meet at the NRH Centre at 4:30 p.m. to have dinner and start the judging. Each member will nominate two of the best lighting displays for their designated area by Friday, December 9. 7. STAFF REPORT Debbie York reported that there are three new Adopt A Spot volunteer groups: Donna Tyner, Justin Welborn and St. John the Apostle Catholic School National Junior Honor Society. 8.
