CALL TO ORDER
Chair Don Tipps called the meeting to order April 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ms. Crisp moved to accept the minutes; Ms. Stallard seconded; the minutes were
unanimously approved.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ms. Barham reviewed the library's statistics from March 2017 with the board and answered
questions.
REPORT ON PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
Ms. Barham reported on past Library events including:
• The annual AARP Tax Aide program, with more sessions offered this year.
• Behind the Book Luncheon event with author Lisa See: 82 people attended the
event. Ms. Stallard gave the board a brief review of See's latest novel, "The Tea Girl
of Hummingbird Lane ".
• The iMake at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, with 124 children
participating at the Library's table.
• PTA Activities Fair, where 252 people received information about the Library's
Summer programs
• Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event: 68 volunteers and 2 city councilmen attended
the dinner.
• Friends of the Library Annual Meeting, with 29 members present.
And upcoming Library events including:
• The Spring /Summer Book Buzz on 5/17/17
• The Behind the Book event with author Nancy Thayer on 5/18/17 at 1:OOpm
The Mayor's Summer Reading Club's theme "One Community, Many Stories" and its
regular and new programs.
The Birdville Reads program kick -off on 6/3/17 at the BISD Arts & Athletics Complex.
THE LIBRARIES AND LITERACY GRANT AWARD
Ms. Barham informed that the Library used the grant to purchase one charging cart and 4
laptops used for adult computer classes, which increased 348% in March. The Library
currently teaches 40 classes per month.
DISCUSSION OF FINES AND FEES
Ms. Barham presented a review done on Benchmark libraries about fines, fees and auto
renewal services. Ms. Barham will conduct a cost - benefit data collection analysis during
summer for the board to consider and discuss next fall.
PERSONNEL UPDATE
Abby Sehgal is the new part-time Technical Assistant in reference. Circulation is concluding
the interviews for the part-time page position.
NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting will be held on May 18, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Board Room.
