1. Call The Meeting To Order
Meeting was called to order by Secretary, Luis Carrillo 6:00 pm.
2. Introductions
There were a couple individuals present that missed the first meeting of the year, so Ms.
Kristin James started by introducing herself and then asked everyone to tell their name,
grade, school and one interesting fact about themselves to break the ice.
3. Approve the minutes from the September 13, 2017 meeting of the Youth Advisory
Committee
Chair Luis Carrillo asked for a motion to approve the minutes. Mr. Randy Rangel
motioned, Ms. Cynthia Cruz seconded the motion and it was passed
unanimously.
4. Presentation from the Public Works Department — Marrk Callier, Management Assistant
of Development Services
Ms. James introduced Mr. Marrk Callier to the podium to give a presentation regard the
Public Works Department. He discussed the different divisions of the department and
what they did, including — Administration, the Utility Division and the Streets & Traffic
Division. He discussed their budget, both operating and capital budget. Included
information regarding how projects are funded. He discussed information about
floodplain management and finished the presentation by discussing some of the items
he brought to show the group. Those items included, utility plans, traffic studies and
street ratings.
5. Discussion regarding Hope Squad and next steps
Ms. James introduced the topic of Hope Squad to the Committee. Chair Carrillo started
by recapping what the project entailed that was presented to City Council last spring.
Then Ms. James stated that the Birdville ISD School Board had a presentation at their
last board meeting from their counseling department. The Committee then watched the
streaming video of the presentation. It was decided that the Committee will continue to
move forward with Hope Squad, but will wait till after the Hope Squad representative
comes to present at a YAC meeting before they decide what the next steps are.
6. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:32 pm.
