HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2018-03-20 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE MARCH 20, 2018 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met on the 20th day of March, 2018 at 5:45 p.m. in the Neighborhood Services conference room. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Sandra Totty Place 1 Amy Steele Place 2 Susan Young Place 3 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelly Place 7 Kelvin Deupree Alternate Absent: Mi'Shon Landry Place 4 Staff Members: Debbie York,Asst. Director of Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION - None . C. ACTION ITEMS C.1 Approval of minutes of the January 16, 2018 Keep NRH Beautiful Commission meeting. Motion to approve carried 7-0 as written. C.2 Discuss appointment of delegates to the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference,June 10-13: Debbie York and Kathy Luppy will represent Keep NRH Beautiful at the conference. Training and network experiences will be shared with the board at the August, 2018 meeting C.3 Schedule volunteers for Sounds of Spring events The board members each selected at least one of the Sounds of Spring events to participate at the Neighborhood Services booth. As a means of public outreach, program brochures, seed packets and other giveaway items will be shared with the concert participants before the event starts at 7 p.m. C.4 Discuss continuation of I Dig My Garden Photo Contest. The members suggested trying to get more participation by changing the contest categories to include photos of public art, parks, wildlife, landscapes (residential and commercial), architecture and water features. Social media will be used to advertise and allow entries for the contest with a hashtag of #BeautifulNRH. Page 1 of 2 D. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS D.1 Discuss Yard of the Month/Garden Tour. The members discussed reinstating the Yard of the Month program and having a garden tour, but decided to delay those programs until 2019 so that planning can be done on them during the winter of 2018. D.2 Discuss offering a rain barrel rebate to promote water conservation. Debbie York advised members that funding has been requested to offer a $25. 00 rebate on 25 rain barrels. For the program on September 8th, there will be a presentation by Dotty Woodson in the NRH Library and then the participants will move out to Storm Plaza to build the rain barrels which they will be able to take home to catch rain water to use in their landscape. E. DEPARTMENT UPDATES&GENERAL INFORMATION E.1 Debbie York advised the Commission that work on the hardscape for the landscape project, from the 2015 GCAA Award will begin this summer and the plants will be added in the fall. E.2 Debbie York has also advised that the Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off will take place with volunteers cleaning up litter on Davis Boulevard between Starnes and North Tarrant Parkway. E.3 Dates to remember: i. Common Ground Community Garden Workshop—August 4, 2018 ii. Rain Barrel Class—September 8, 2018 iii. Fix It Blitz—October 20, 2018 iv. Trash Bash—September 29, 2018 F.
