HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2018-11-06 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE NOVEMBER 6, 2018 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met on the 6th day of November, 2018 at 5:40 p.m. in the Neighborhood Services conference room. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Sandra Totty Place 1 Amy Steele Place 2 Mi'Shon Landry Place 4 Donah Tyner Place 5 Rene Martinez Alternate Absent: Susan Young Place 3 Brandon Kelly Place 7 Staff Members: Debbie York, Asst. Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister, Admin. Secretary of Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION - None C. ACTION ITEMS C.1 Approval of minutes of the August 21, 2018 Keep NRH Beautiful Commission meeting. Motion to approve carried 6-0 as written. C.2 Judge Green Campus Applications: Approved applicants will receive $150.00 from the Commission. Entries: Results: Birdville High School Approved Green Valley Elementary Approved North Ridge Elementary Approved Snow Heights Elementary Approved St.John the Apostle School Approved Judge Environmental Education Grant Applications: Results are: Entries Amount: Results: Birdville High School- Birdville Buddy Garden $121.86 Approved Green Valley Elementary-Grow Big Dreams $250.00 Approved North Ridge Middle School-STEM Outdoor Classroom $235.53 Approved Snow Heights Elementary-Countyard Oasis $374.83 Approved St.John the Apostle School-School Garden $9,499.67 Denied The project for St.John the Apostle School was discussed and the Commission decided that it did not meet the criteria for the Environmental Education Grants. Debbie York will advise all applicants of the results. Joyce Fister, Administrative Secretary will issue the checks. It was decided that a letter and reminder email be sent to the winners regarding the report that is due 5/1/19. Page 1 of 2 C.3 Judge the Keep NRH Beautiful Photo Contest: Commission members selected 1st Place and 2nd Place winners in each of the 3 categories: Environment Category - 1st Place Winner- Nosey Neighbor by Tammy Klepac 2nd Place Winner- Zinnia's with Orange Butterfly by Darla Tappe Architecture Category - 1st Place Winner- NRH2O by Michelle Teresa 2nd Place Winner- Stormy Plaza by Tammy Klepac Community Category - 15t Place Winner- NRH Fireworks by Tammy Klepac 2nd Place Winner- Trash Bash Volunteers by Maure Gardiner D DEPARTMENT UPDATES&GENERAL INFORMATION: D.1 Governor's Community Achievement Award Project Update: Debbie York told the members that, per TxDot, work has been slow to none at all due to rain and weather the last month. As soon as they have a new schedule, it will be sent to Debbie York. Amy Steele suggested that when the work actually begins, Commission members go to the site with hard hats and shovels for a photo, which can be used on the City's website to promote the work that is done by the Commission. E. CALENDAR OF EVENTS: E.1 Tree Planting/Care Workshop—will be held at the NRH Library on November 10, 2018. E.2 Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting& Family Festival: Friday, December 7, 2018, from 5:15pm through 9:00 pm. Commission Members signed up for the following shifts to help at the Festival: 5:15 pm -6:15 pm Mishon Landry&Amy Steele 6:15 pm -7:15 pm Brandon Kelly& Debbie York 7:15 pm -8:15 pm Kathy Luppy& Donah Tyner 8:15 pm -9:15 pm Sandra Totty& Rene Martinez E.3 Christmas Lighting Contest Judging—Sunday, December 9, 2018. The Commission decided to meet at NRH Centre at 4:30 pm. Debbie York handed out maps of each member's area along with a list of past winners, who are not eligible this year. F.
