Chair Kusmierski called the meeting to order June 3, 2019 at 6:02 p.m.

D. PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ITEMS
E. DEPARTMENT UPDATES
E.1 NRH2O FAMILY WATER PARK UPDATE.
Ms. Stephanie Hee, NRH2O Admissions & Promotions Coordinator, presented an update
on activities at NRH2O.
• NRH2O is open for its 25th season.
• NRH2O Music Festival - This year's music festival was the 2nd largest with over
17,000 guests representing more than 225 school groups. Stephanie thanked
everyone who assisted them in making the music festival such a success.
• Dive-In Movies will kick off on July 5.
• NRH2O will have Fireworks on the following days, June 15, July 13 and August 3.
• NRH2O will be hosting a Jaws themed "after hours" event on Friday, June 28.
Guests can enjoy the movie as well as a live DJ, glow items, food specials, photo
ops, and giveaways.
• NRH2O will hold the World's Largest Swimming LessonT"" on Thursday, June 20.
This will be the tenth year for this global event and TEAM WLSLT"" will be setting its
sights on a new goal - reaching more than one billion people with the message
Swimming Lessons Save LivesT""
E.2 PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS UPDATE.
Mr. Bill Thornton, Assistant Director, presented an update on the following Parks Capital
Projects:
• Linda Spurlock Park - Staff met at the Park recently to visualize the concepts of
the redevelopment options and discuss constraints and opportunities.
• Iron Horse Golf Course Improvements - GolfScapes was selected to provide
professional services and construction oversight of the improvements to Iron Horse
Golf Course. A pre-design kick-off meeting was held on May 10, 2019 to discuss
pertinent issues related to the project. Bids for construction are anticipated to be
released in early September with construction beginning in mid-November 2019
through the end of July 2020. The golf course is 30 years old and resides almost

entirely in the floodway. Over the years flooding has deteriorated the fairways,
bunkers and greens. Renovations are needed to address these issues and keep
the course competitive and attract golfers. Board Member Mitchell asked if it were
possible to get the US Army Corp of Engineers involved to address the creek
corridor. Staff responded that they did not know the answer to that question, but
will check with city engineers. Board Member Copeland asked if the golf course
was shutting down during the renovations. Staff responded that we are looking at
alternatives such as keeping the front six holes and driving range open. Staff will
receive recommendations from the consultant.
E.3 PARK MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS UPDATE.
Mr. Tanner Arwine, Parks Assistant Superintendent, presented an update on parks
maintenance projects.
• Storm damage - Recent spring storms damaged an abundance of park trees. Staff
is also trying to address drainage issues identified by the recent storms.
• Park staff are continuing to prep the fields for summer tournaments and sports
camps.
• Mr. Arwine stated that they are extremely pleased with the new general mowing
contractor, Smith Lawn and Tree.
E.4 NRH CENTRE, GRAND HALL, ATHLETICS, SENIOR CENTER, RICHLAND
TENNIS CENTER, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES UPDATE.
Ms. Vickie Loftice, Managing Director, presented an update on activities at the NRH
Centre, Grand Hall, Athletics, Senior Center and the Tennis Center.
• Youth camps are currently open for enrollment.
• The Grand Hall has done a great job exceeding their projected revenues and
anticipate exceeding $500,000 for the year.
• `Round the Town Bike Ride will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at Cross Timbers
Park. The July 2 ride will begin at Richfield Park.
• 'Round the Town Monthly Walks also continue. The next walk is scheduled for
Thursday, June 6 at City Hall and July 11 at Linda Spurlock Park.
• The NRH Senior Center continues to offer creative and innovative programs for the
seniors. They include "Flip-Flop Bunco Bash" and "Joke and Floats".
• Richland Tennis Center will be hosting the USTA Men's Playoffs on May 31 - June
2 as well as multiple other tournaments through the summer.
• NRH Cultural Arts is accepting submissions for the "Virtual Art Gallery" to be
displayed online June 27 -August 10.
• NRH Poets Corner continues with its bi-monthly scheduled at Roots Coffeehouse

on Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m.
• The Northeast Tarrant Family 4th Celebration and Fireworks Show will be held on
July 4 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with children's activities. A live concert from 8:00 -
9:00 p.m. will feature vocalist Holly Tucker of NBC's "The Voice" fame. Fireworks
will start at approximately 9:30 p.m.
