unanimously.
3. Introductions of committee, staff and visitors
The Committee did a round of introductions.
4. Discuss program retention and recruitment.
The Committee discussed initiatives for program recruitment. Members will
create a flier with information about YAC and spread it to incoming ninth graders
as well as other high school students. Announcements will also be made at both
Birdville and Richland High School to recruit current high school students.
5. Discuss program updates.
Billy Owens discussed the topic of attendance for Committee members and the
desire from City Council to see positive outcomes from the group. YAC will give
two briefings to City Council this year on various topics they feel are important to
their age-group.
6. Discuss and consider ideas for the 2019 Youth Project Proposal.
Members discussed the possibility of doing two different projects through the
year. They would like to do a welcome event for new members to the City of
North Richland Hills. This event would focus on assisting those new residents
who might have issues with language barriers or other cultural differences that
might make it difficult for them. The Committee would use this event to show the
new residents all the services and community resources that are available to
them to make sure they have an easier transition in becoming part of the NRH
community.
The group also discussed doing an event at the animal shelter like they had in
the past. The group will first focus on the diversity event for this semester before
planning for the next event.
7. Adjournment
Chair Emily Wallace adjourned the meeting at 6:42 p.m.
