HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2019-11-19 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE NOVEMBER 19, 2019 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met on the 19TH day of November, 2019, at 5:45 p.m. in the Neighborhood Services conference room. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Amy Steele Place 2 Donah Tyner Place 5 MiShon Landry Place 4 Absent: Brandon Kelley Place 7 Rene Martinez Alternate Vacant Place 1 Susan Young Place 3 Staff Members: Stefanie Martinez, Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister, Administrative Secretary, Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. C. ACTION ITEMS C.1 Approve minutes of the September 17,2019 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Motion to approve corrected Minutes, carried 4-0. D. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS D.1 Events Recap-Presented by Stefanie Martinez Trash Bash: • 284 volunteers • 55 miles of Roadway/Trails cleaned • 142 bags of trash were collected • Estimated 2,800 lbs. of trash collected Fix-it Blitz: There was a good turnout. 25 projects were completed by approximately 200 volunteers. Hoot N Howl: There was a good turnout and all the candy was handed out. Stefanie Martinez thanked Brandon Kelley and his girlfriend along with Donah and Gerry Tyner for their help at the event. Page 1 of 3 D.2 Discuss Sponsoring Community Garden's Spring Gardening Seminar Stefanie Martinez advised that the Community Garden had asked if the Commission would provide breakfast for the Spring Seminar on February 1, 2020. There would also be a KNRHB table set up as in past years. Volunteers will be needed to man the table. Commission members approved participation at this event. D.3 Discuss Green Campus Award Applications Copies of the applications were emailed to commission members prior to the meeting for review. There were 3 applications and all received the$150 award: Academy at Carrie F. Thomas Elementary North Ridge Elementary School St.John the Apostle Catholic School D.4 Discuss Environmental Education Grant Applications Copies of all applications were emailed to commission members prior to the meeting for review. Only 2 applications were submitted and, after discussion, the Commission gave the following awards: North Ridge Elementary-$600 St.John the Apostle Catholic School -$200 D.5 Discuss Christmas Lighting Awards Stefanie Martinez advised that nominations from the public will be taken through 3:00 PM on December 6th. The Commission will drive by all nominated homes. Members will meet at the NRH Rec Center at 4:30 PM on December 8, 2019 for the judging, and will then go to dinner at Babe's. If there is not enough time to review all nominated houses, the Commission will meet again at the NRH Rec Center on December 9th at 6:00 PM to complete the judging. It was suggested that a list of previous winners be emailed to all members as they will not be eligible for this year's award. D.6 Discuss Having a Booth at Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting& Family Festival The Commission agreed to have a booth in the Library for the event,from 6:00—9:00 PM. The table will be the one used by Members while will selling tickets for the event. Kristin James will send out a schedule to the Commission members to sign up. It was decided that the Commission would provide a plant as a door prize. Tickets will be given to visitors to fill out with their name and winner will be notified by Kristin James. D.7 Discuss Adopt-a-Spot Program Stefanie Martinez advised that currently the program requires that areas be cleaned 6 times a year. It was proposed that be reduced to 4 times per year. Most similar programs require 4 cleanings. TxDot's Adopt-a-Highway program requires 4 cleanings a year. After discussion, it was decided to table this item for a future meeting. Instead of having a separate Adopt-a-Trail program, people can adopt trails and paths. D.8 Discuss"10 on Tuesday" Campaign A flyer was given to Commission Members to review, which explains the program. It is to encourage everyone to pick up 10 items of trash every Tuesday. The Commission approved and Kristin James will create a clearer flyer and will start posting ion social media. Page 2 of 3 E. GENERAL INFORMATION E.1 Dates to Remember: Stefanie Martinez reminded the members of the following dates to remember: • Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting & Family Festival—December 6, 2019 • Christmas Lighting Judging—December 8, 2019 & December 9, 2019 • KNRHB Meeting—January 15, 2020 • Present Lighting Awards at City Council—January 13, 2020 • Community Garden's Spring Gardening Seminar—February 1, 2020 F.
