CALL TO ORDER Chairman Karen Russell called the meeting to order at 6:09 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Ron Moore Place 3 Mandi Sullins Place 4 Amanda Roach Place 5 Karen Russell Place 6 Diana Goodwin Place 7 David DeBusk Haltom City representative Bethany Grohman Watauga City representative Wendy Cooper Richland Hills City representative Absent: Lauryn Birkes Place 1 Janet Golightly Place 2 Doug Janke Teen Court Clerk Staff Members: Heather Hollingsworth Teen Court Coordinator Rebecca Vinson Court Administrator *Mandi Sullins and Bethany Grohman arrived after approval of the May 2, 2019 minutes, and Amanda Roach left after approval of the May 2, 2019 minutes. PUBLIC COMMENTS no public comments APROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MAY 2, 2019 TEEN COURT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING Amanda Roach moved to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2019 Teen Court Advisory Committee meeting. Wendy Cooper seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 6-0 (Ron Moore, Amanda Roach, Karen Russell, Diana Goodwin, David DeBusk, and Wendy Cooper). Teen Court Advisory Committee Minutes • November 14, 2019 Page 1 of 2 DISCUSS AND CONSIDER PROCESS FOR DISMISSING TEEN JURORS FROM JURY SERVICE Concern with jurors or parents behavior/dress needs to be brought to the attention of Heather Hollingsworth, Doug Janke, or the court Marshal. They will decide who needs to be dismissed or not, and inform the judge. Mandi Sullins motioned to approve. Wendy Cooper seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 7-0 (Ron Moore, Mandi Sullins, Karen Russell, Diana Goodwin, David DeBusk, Bethany Grohman, and Wendy Cooper). DISCUSS AND CONSIDER REQUIREMENTS OF JUVENILES TO HAVE PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN PRESENT AT INITIAL TRIAL SETTING. Jurors who are 16 years old, or younger, are required to have their parent or legal guardian present. Other family members and friends must remain in the courtroom. Jurors 17 years old, or older, may have a parent or legal guardian present if they choose. DISCUSS AND CONSIDER EXPECTATIONS OF MARSHAL AND VOLUNTEER IN POLICE SERVICE (VIPS) ASSISTANCE IN TEEN COURT. The Marshal provides protection to the judge, public, staff, and volunteers in the court. The VIPS are in the courtroom and lobby for crowd control, to monitor behavior, monitor restroom breaks, and monitor people who leave the courtroom. Any problem with VIPS is to be reported to Heather Hollingsworth or Doug Janke.
