CALL TO ORDER
Chair Don Tipps called the meeting to order on October 22, 2020 at 6:07 pm.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
There were no public comments at this meeting.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Tipps moved to accept the minutes; all board members adopted it as presented.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ms. Barham reviewed the Library's statistics from September 2020 with the board and
answered questions.
NEW CARPET INSTALLATION
Ms. Barham reported that the Library will receive new carpet beginning 11/30. The Library
will operate regularly during the installation and staff will pull items from closed areas for
patrons. Curbside pickup service will be encouraged as a convenient alternative. In addition,
outside lockers with items on hold will be introduced for patrons picking up materials when
the Library is closed. If this service proves successful, the lockers will be placed in
underserved areas of the city to reach out their communities.
AUTOMATED MATERIALS HANDLER
Ms. Barham announced the Library is receiving an automated materials handler in
December. The equipment will check in items, reducing contact and allowing staff to do
other tasks.
REPORT ON PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
Ms. Barham reported on past Library events including:
• Book Sale in a Bag: Friends of the Library fundraiser during October where people
can purchase prefilled bags of books.
• TMS Inktober Workshop on 10/3, 10/17, and 10/31 at 10:00am: Online drawing
meetups to improve drawing skills and connect with other artists.
• NRH Community Reads on 10/14 at 7:00 pm. 8 people joined the online Zoom
meeting to discuss the book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert
Louis.
• Mid-Cities Teen Book Fest virtual event on 10/16: 887 people participated and
watched authors interviews, panels and workshops.
• Pinterest Parties: Leaf Wreath Zoom online adult craft party on 10/20 at 3:00 pm.
• Maker Spot at Home: participants pick up free take-home supply kits to make during
online Zoom classes. This fall, classes include clay sculpting, fall card making, and
brush lettering.
And upcoming Library events including:
• Adult Services virtual Horror Trivia Night on 10/29 at 6:00pm.
• Pinterest Parties: Sock Pumpkins Zoom online adult craft party on 11/17 at 3:00 pm.
• Take-it/Make-it Crafts: Paper Bag Puppet Zoom online children's craft party on 10/28
at 4:00 pm.
• Lego Challenge: building with Legos Zoom online meeting on 11/18 at 4:30 pm.
GENERAL INFORMATION
PERSONNEL UPDATE
The Library is currently interviewing candidates for one part-time position in Reference and
2 positions in Circulation.
NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting will be held on November 12, 2020 at 6:00 pm.
