HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2020-07-21 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE J U LY 21,2020 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met for an on-line meeting on the 21st day ofJuly, 2020 at 5:45 p.m.from the Neighborhood Services Office. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:49 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Amy Hedgecock Place 1 Amy Steele Place 2 Susan Young Place 3 MiShon Landry Place 4 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelley Place 7 Kimberly Johnson Alternate Staff Members: Kristin James, Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister, Administrative Secretary, Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. C. PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments D. ACTION ITEMS D.1 Approve minutes of the February 18,2020 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Approval of minutes of February 18, 2020 was postponed until the August meeting due to not being sent out to members in time to review. E. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS E.1 Discuss Virtual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference. Kristin James advised that this year's conference will be a virtual meeting held on August 25 &26, 2020. Members were asked to let Kristin know soon if they wanted to participate in the conference. E.2 Discuss 2021 Keep Texas Beautiful Affiliate Recognition Requirements. Kristin James advised that the KNRHB Commission is currently a Gold Star affiliate, as in the past. E.3 Discussion regarding results of events and activities held during the spring. 1. Virtual Photo Contest. Kristin James advised that the Contest reached 6600 people,with 20 entries. There were approximately 1100 votes. Commission is considering repeating the contest in the fall. Page 1 of 3 2. Nature Scavenger Hunt. There were no participants signed up. 3. Family Friendly Gardening Seminar. There were 10 attendees at the Seminar. E.4 Discussion regarding upcoming events and activities 1. DIY Sprinkler Class—July 23, 2020 79 people are signed up and their kits can be picked up at the Neighborhood Services office. 2. Green Campus Awards. Motion was made to postpone the event and seconded. Motion passed. 3. Environmental Education Grants. Motion was made to postpone the event and seconded. Motion passed. 4. Trash Bash. Kristin James advised the date is set for Sept. 26, 2020. Due to restrictions,there will be no picnic. Supplies can be picked up by small groups at City Hall. Supplies will include grabbers, t-shirts,vest, bags, gloves and rules. Nothing will need to be returned after the event. Kristin advised that there is enough money in the budget to purchase these items. Trash can be dropped off at City dumpsters. 5. Fix-it Blitz—October 24, 2020. There will be no volunteer breakfast this year.Ways that the Commission can participate will be discussed at a later meeting. 6. Community Clean-up—October 24, 2020. America Recycles Day may work in coordination of the clean-up. Details will be discussed in future meeting 7. Texas Trees Seminar and Tree Giveaway—November 14, 2020. This year will be a virtual giveaway,with trees being picked up at City Hall. Types of trees will be discussed at a later date. 8. Adopt-a-Highway Cleanups. Events are supposed to be held 4 times a year. Kristin will find out if that number will be changed and advise the committee at the next meeting. 9. Christmas Lights Judging. December 13 & 14, 2020 will be the date of the event. Details will be discussed at future meeting. 10. Litter Index Survey. The study needs to be done for Keep America Beautiful. Details will be at August, 2020 meeting. E.5 Discuss ideas for future virtual events. Members were asked to think about ideas which will be discussed at August, 2020 meeting. Page 2 of 3 G.
