E. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS
E.1 Discuss 2020 Christmas Light Judging
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the judging was done individually by each judge and submitted to Kristin
James. Members felt this was more difficult and time consuming than previous years. Suggestions to
improve it were made by various members:
a. Increase the time that a winner has to wait until winning again from 3 years to 5 years. This will
be implemented.
b. A "dashboard" of the contest, containing the nominations and locations will be posted on the
website so residents can have better information about the contest. Kristin James will work on
this for next year's judging.
c. Members are asked to think about any other changes to the procedures, which will be discussed
at a future meeting.

E.2 Update on the Common Grounds Community Garden
Kristin James advised the Commission that the Church that hosts the Community Garden is for sale and
the contract that the City had with them is no longer valid. They have asked that no preparation be
done for spring planting. The Parks Dept. and other City personnel are looking into options. No
decisions have been made yet.
E.3 Discuss 2021 Governor's Community Achievement Award Application
Kristin James advised the Commission that the application is due in March and there are not a lot of
changes from last year's application. The area of concern is the area of outreach to students, which is
less this year due to the Pandemic. She will have a draft of the application ready for review at the
February meeting.
E.4 Discuss 2021 Keep Texas Beautiful Recognition Status
Kristin James told the members that the application has been completed and she is currently awaiting a
letter from the Mayor to accompany it.
E.5 Discuss ideas for 1021 events and activities.
Suggestions made by members, which will be discussed at a later meeting, included:
a. Sending a questionnaire to students asking them how they can affect the Community during
the Pandemic. A packet would need to be created to send to the principals.
b. Sending a survey to students asking them what they have been doing for the environment
during the Covid-19 situation. These could probably be done by the end of April or May.
c. Set up a contest whereby a teacher would nominate a student to be recognized for their
work in the Community and for the environment. Could be set up to recognize an adult, too.
d. A new program called Trash Free Texas has been created which is like a statewide Adopt-a-
Spot program. Cities submit their locations that have been adopted and they are displayed
on the group's website. It was decided that KNRHB would participate.
e. Environmental Essay contest was suggested.
F. ADJOURNMENT
Kathy Luppy, President, adjourned the meeting at 6:07 pm.
