December 16—Basics of Landscape Design
There were 140 people who had signed up for the first class. Susan Young attended the first virtual class
on April 15, 2021 on Edible Landscapes. She felt it was good, but was presented too quickly. Didn't
allow time for details during the presentation and limited questions afterward. Kristin will provide her
feedback to Tarrant Regional Water Dist. The next class will be the Rain Barrel Class. Kristin has
requested 25 rain barrels to be given out to participants following the class. The Commission will cover
the$25 cost of each barrel. Sprinkler repair kits are proved following the DIY Sprinkler Repair class.
The commission discussed the tree giveaway, which was scheduled after the Trees for North Texas
Class. Kristin advised she has a company to use for ordering the trees, which was recommended by
Tanner Arwine, the City's arborist. Because of the delivery window of the trees, it was decided that
Kristin would contact the Tarrant Regional Water Dist.About switching the date of the Trees for North
Texas class and the Basics of Landscape Design. The tree giveaway would then be held on Dec. 18,
2021.The commission discussed various types of trees, particularly the Chinese Pistache. The cost for
that tree, potted, is$34 each. The final decision on the tree type will be made at the May meeting.
There was discussion on the amount of trees to order and Kristin will contact other cities of similar size
to see how many trees they have given away at previous events.
E.3 Discuss School Programs, including Green Campus Award and the Environmental Education Grants
The Commission agreed to have Kristin send out information on both programs to the principals at the
end of this school year to allow for early planning. A reminder will then be sent in August.
E.4 Discuss the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference
Kristin advised the members that the Conference will again be Virtual and will be held from June 29,
2021 thru July 1, 2021. She asked members to let her know who would like to participate.

The members were advised that the May meeting will be in person and will be held in the Community
