HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2021-04-20 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE North Richland Hills CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE APRIL 20, 2021 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met for an on-line meeting on the 20th day of April, 2021 at 5:45 p.m.from the Neighborhood Services Office. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:47 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Amy Steele Place 2 Susan Young Place 3 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelley Place 7 Kimberly Johnson Alternate Absent: MiShon Landry Place 4 Staff Members: Kristin James, Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. C. PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments D. ACTION ITEMS D.1 Approve minutes of the March 16,2021 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Minutes were approved as written. E. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS E.1 Discuss Great American Clean-up Kristin explained that this is a Keep America Beautiful Event that runs April, May and June. Kristin advised that she has set up a small clean up event,with 15 people signed up so far, to clean any area up until 5/2/21, which is the day that the Commission will be cleaning up Davis Blvd. The members will meet at Family Video at 1:00 pm. They will let Kristin know how many will be participating. E.2 Discuss Class Schedule Kristin shared the schedule of classes/workshops that she had set up with Tarrant Regional Water Dist. April 15—Edible Landscapes May 20—Rain Barrel June 17—Tough Plants for North Texas July 15—Tough Texas Lawn Care August 19—Gardening with Ornamental Grasses September 16—Backyard Composting October 21—DIY Sprinkler Repair Page 1 of 2 November 4—Trees for North Texas(This will go with our Texas Arbor Day Tree Giveaway that Saturday, November 6) December 16—Basics of Landscape Design There were 140 people who had signed up for the first class. Susan Young attended the first virtual class on April 15, 2021 on Edible Landscapes. She felt it was good, but was presented too quickly. Didn't allow time for details during the presentation and limited questions afterward. Kristin will provide her feedback to Tarrant Regional Water Dist. The next class will be the Rain Barrel Class. Kristin has requested 25 rain barrels to be given out to participants following the class. The Commission will cover the$25 cost of each barrel. Sprinkler repair kits are proved following the DIY Sprinkler Repair class. The commission discussed the tree giveaway, which was scheduled after the Trees for North Texas Class. Kristin advised she has a company to use for ordering the trees,which was recommended by Tanner Arwine, the City's arborist. Because of the delivery window of the trees, it was decided that Kristin would contact the Tarrant Regional Water Dist.About switching the date of the Trees for North Texas class and the Basics of Landscape Design. The tree giveaway would then be held on Dec. 18, 2021.The commission discussed various types of trees, particularly the Chinese Pistache. The cost for that tree, potted, is$34 each.The final decision on the tree type will be made at the May meeting. There was discussion on the amount of trees to order and Kristin will contact other cities of similar size to see how many trees they have given away at previous events. E.3 Discuss School Programs, including Green Campus Award and the Environmental Education Grants The Commission agreed to have Kristin send out information on both programs to the principals at the end of this school year to allow for early planning. A reminder will then be sent in August. E.4 Discuss the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference Kristin advised the members that the Conference will again be Virtual and will be held from June 29, 2021 thru July 1, 2021. She asked members to let her know who would like to participate. E.5 Brainstorm ideas for 2021 events and activities. The members were advised that the May meeting will be in person and will be held in the Community Room at City Hall, which will allow for adequate spacing between members. F.
