HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2021-05-18 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE North Richland Hills CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE MAY 18,2021 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met for a meeting on the 18th day of May, 2021 at 5:45 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelley Place 7 Kimberly Johnson Alternate Absent: Amy Steele Place 2 Susan Young Place 3 MiShon Landry Place 4 Staff Members: Kristin James,Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister,Administrative Secretary of Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. C. PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments D. ACTION ITEMS D.1 Approve minutes of the April 20,2021 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Minutes were approved as written. E. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS E.1 Discuss rescheduling Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup#1 Due to the cancelation of this event, it was discussed and rescheduled for June 13, 2021 at 1:30 pm. Members and participants are to meet at the old Family Video Store. Event should take about 2 hours. E.2 Discuss Yard of the Month Kristin James advised the members that 1 or 2 people had contacted City Management asking about the Yard of the Month program and wanting to know why it had been discontinued. Kathy Luppy gave a brief history of the program, stating that it had been discontinued because it was getting too difficult to get participants to act as judges. E.3 Discuss Keep Texas Beautiful Conference Kristin advised the members that the conference will be virtual again this year on 6/29/29—7/1/21. She has not yet received the agenda. When it is received she will send it to the committee members to see if they want to attend any of the seminars,virtually. Page 1 of 2 E.4 Brainstorm ideas for 2021 events and activities. Kristin advised the Commission of the following: • Photo contest will begin the 1st week of June. • She will be attending the virtual conference by NUSA, Neighborhoods USA and will report back. • The online Rain Barrel Class has 40 people registered. We are providing 25 free rain barrels, which will be available to pick up from City Hall next week. Kristin suggested the Commission concentrate more on involving school students in activities. She felt this was an area that was lacking for the Governor's Community Achievement Award. The goal to have these ideas in place by the August meeting of the Commission. Several ideas were discussed including: • Creating a mascot for the Commission to use in school activities and engage students. • Researching to see if there are any performing groups that would apply to the programs • Researching the possibility of getting involved at groups at the Library and participating in the Summer Reading Program for 2022. • Renew the Recycle More contest. • Contests for essays, poems, music, etc. • Work with the Recreation Center summer camp programs F.
