HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2021-06-15 Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE North Richland Hills CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE JUNE 15, 2021 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met for a meeting on the 15th day of June, 2021 at 5:45 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:47 p.m. Present: Kathy Luppy Chairperson, Place 6 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelley Place 7 MiShon Landry Place 4 Kimberly Johnson Alternate Absent: Amy Steele Place 2 Susan Young Place 3 Staff Members: Kristin James,Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister, Administrative Secretary of Neighborhood Services B. CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. C. PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments D. ACTION ITEMS D.1 Approve minutes of the May 18,2021 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Minutes were approved as written. E. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS E.1 Discuss Results of Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup#1 Event was cancelled due to hot weather and high grass along route. Will reschedule it in the fall. Kristin will check to see if Teen Court will be meeting in the future and can participate. E.2 Discuss Keep Texas Beautiful Conference Conference is held in 2 weeks and will be virtual. Brandon Kelley advised Kristin he would like to attend. She will register him and send out an email to absent members to see if they were interested. Page 1 of 2 E.3 Discuss Results of 2020 Governor's Community Achievement Award Application The KNRHB score was 98%. There were 11 applicant cities in the category but KNRHB did not place in the top 3 entries. Kristin advised that comments had been made by the judges that the Commission's entry was weak in the education area. Ideas that were discussed: • Program to educate the teachers such as sponsoring an in-service class and having the Tarrant Regional Water District provide a speaker and supplies. • Performing a survey for the schools to determine their needs for outdoor learning. This would be sent to the principals of the schools, starting with 1 or 2 schools. Prior to the next meeting, Members were asked to come up with questions for the survey and email them to Kristin. • Tarrant Regional Water District has several programs,which are available for the Commission to use and sponsor. Kathy Luppy explained one program that she uses in her classroom, Waterwise. The kit includes a low flow shower head and aerators. Students can test the ones they currently have for usage of gallons per minute. The new ones are then installed and tested again to show the improvement. • Kathy Luppy has contacts for a speaker from Texas Parks&Wildlife and they have trunks which can be checked out and a volunteer can be trained to use the supplies in a presentation at school. • The idea of scholarships was discussed again, noting that both NEET and Keep Texas Beautiful have scholarships available. E.4 Brainstorm ideas for 2021 events and activities. Suggestions that were made for future events and activities: • Kristin will check into get the Water Shed Trailer from Tarrant Water District for the Trash Bash. • Discussion on getting a mascot costume for the Commission. Kristin will look into the cost. • A cleanup project suggested was cleaning a cemetery. • The Trash Bash is scheduled for 9/25/21 and Kristin advised the shirts will be lime green and suggested a craft for the kids. • The Fix-it Blitz will be held on 10/16/21 and KNRHB will probably be sponsoring the breakfast again, if it is held.
