Special Council Meeting North Richland Hills
Meeting called to order 7:50 P.M.
Present: Councilmen: Dowell, Falcone, Stevens, Barnett.
Mayor Pro Tem, Robeets, presiding in absence of Mayor Hunter
(confined to bed due to illness). Chtief Lewis present.
City Secretary absent (due to illness).
ITEM F--PURCHASE OF POLICE CAR
Bids presented to Council as previously solicited. Urgency
of immediate action noted due to season of year which requires
maximum police protection, and fact that unit l~l out of service
due to transmission and brake failure. Estimated cost to
place unit 141 back in ser¥ice $300.00 to $400.00. New
vehicle order.d for unit 141 replacement has not arrived,
with possible delivery after first of year. It is noted
that Police Dept. personnel have driven 5,200 miles in
private automobiles in service of the City without compensation,
(this does not include 30,000 to 40,000 miles driven by the
Chief in his personal vehicle). Much of this driving has
been in surveilance, serving of warrants, transporting of
prisoners, investigation, etc. Tecommendation in for a third
unit to be a small economy model vehicle, for low cost operation.
Estimated life of the unit will be three years. Discussion
notes that initial cost of the vehicle less the trade in
value should be prorated over the years of service to realize
the actual annual cost for the additional unit. Also, the
utility of operation of the additional vehicle, the advantage
of a stand-by vehicle in emergencies, and the necessity of
conducting City business at the ordinary city expense,
has been brought out in discussion.
Motion, Joe Barnett, second L. Falcone to accept Dub Shaw
bid fop Fàirlanà per bid plus cost of installation of fadio
in unit 141, contingent on acceptance of unit 141 trade in
or is on new patrol unit to be delivered. Unit to be delivered
immediately (December 22, 1964) Vote 4-0

presented 12/28/64 at regular meeting
III Discussion of why advertising for Fire Truck not completed
per council authorization and chartàr requirements.
