E.4 Discuss Environmental Education Survey
Members suggested the following questions to include in the Environmental Education Survey that will
be sent to the schools in the area:
1. What barriers do the schools face in getting participation in the Environmental Programs, such
as time restraints, lack of information, lack of resources, etc?
2. What are the existing Environmental Programs that are already in place?
3. Is outdoor space available for use in implementing programs?
4. Is there a representative from the PTA that coordinates programs?
5. Are there resources readily available to the students such as library books?
6. Additional space be provided on the survey for principals to provide their own suggestions.
7. Which, if any, city parks are utilized for current Environmental Education?
Additional ideas suggested:
1. Hold a contest for the schools to name the KNRHB mascot.
2. Hold workshops at schools like the rain barrels workshop.
3. Provide an incentive to the schools/principals to complete the Survey, such as a gift card.
Kristin advised that information about our existing programs was sent to the school principals in May
and she will be sending a reminder in August. Feedback so far had been positive. Further discussion
regarding mascot will be held at next meeting, with members being asked to bring ideas.

neon color. Kristin will order shirts and create a flier for the event.
E.6 Discuss Adopt-a-Spot Program
Kristin advised that a complaint had been received from a citizen regarding an area, with a sign,
that is never cleaned up, which resulted in the adopter getting"free advertisement" for doing nothing.
The caller felt that the area should be cleaned more often. Kristin advised she would bring it up to the
Commission to see if a change was needed. The members felt the current requirement of 4
times per year was sufficient. Kristin will contact the citizen to let her know.
