HomeMy WebLinkAboutKNRH 2022-06-21 Minutes 4.4 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING Yr OF THE KEEP NORTH RICHLAND HILLS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,TEXAS, HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL 4301 CITY POINT DRIVE JUNE 21,2022 The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met for a meeting on the 21st day of June, 2022 at 5:45 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall. A. CALL TO ORDER Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:53 p.m. Pre sent: Kathy Luppy Chair Kay Dansby Place 1 Donah Tyner Place 5 Brandon Kelley Place 7 Absent: Brianne Goetz Place 3 MiShon Landry Place 4 Staff Members: Kristin James, Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Joyce Fister, Administrative Secretory, Neighborhood Services B.1 CITIZENS PRESENTATION No presentations. B.2 PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments C. ACTION ITEMS C.1 Approve minutes of the May 17,2022 Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission meeting. Minutes were approved unanimously with no corrections. D. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS D.1 Discuss the Redesign of the Keep NRH Beautiful Logo Sarah Green, Cultural Arts Program Coordinator for the NRH Parks Dept.was present to discuss the redesign of the KNRHB logo. She asked what the Commission wanted the logo to represent. Brandon Kelley suggested Interconnectedness with schools& residents, keeping the blue and green colors. Sarah suggested that she revise the current logo rather than starting with something new. She will work up some designs& ideas and will update the Commission at a future meeting. It was brought up by the members that a mascot would be very useful in working with students, which could also be incorporated in the new logo. Several suggestions for the mascot were made such as an armadillo, because of the sculpture in the park, an owl, duck and bat. Members will consider options and bring ideas to the next meeting. Page 1 of 2 ..r D.2 Discuss the New Programs for Schools Kristin James distributed a draft of the application form for the new JumpStart School Garden Grant. Members reviewed the form. Kay Dansby suggested the commission encourage the use of native plants and water conservation, including a list of plants to be included with the application when it is sent out. It was suggested that a due date that is a little later in the school year would be better. The due date will be changed to September 15, 2022. Ms.James will have the final draft of the application ready for the July meeting. D.3 Discuss Remaining Classes and Schedule for 2022 Kristin James brought up the subject of meetings and asked if there is a need to have a KNRHB meeting every month, as there is not a lot on the agenda for some month's meetings. It was decided that this will be discussed at the July meeting when the new members will be in attendance. Mrs.James gave an update on the Photo Contest, which has had fewer entries than last year. She went through the below. Ms.James encouraged Commission members to attend as many events as possible, as attendance has been lower than expected. She asked for ideas for crafts/activities for the kids participating in the Trash Bash. Members will report next month on ideas. Ms.James also explained what the "Go &Grow" program is about. The company, Rooted In, creates boxes of plants that can be purchased by citizens with a variety of items. Instructions and information about the plants are included. The North Richland Hills City Hall will become a distribution site for the boxes, with members handing out pre-purchased packages on a "drive by" basis.
