ACTION ITEMS June 06, 2022 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Page 1 of 5 6.1 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 4, 2022 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING APPROVED A MOTION WAS MADE BY BOARD MEMBER BECK, SECONDED BY BOARD MEMBER MITCHELL TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 4, 2022 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING. MOTION TO APPROVE CARRIED 4-0 C. PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ITEMS D. DEPARTMENT UPDATES D.1 NRH2O FAMILY WATER PARK UPDATE Ms. Chelsea McClain, NRH2O Marketing and Sales Manager, provided an update on activities at NRH2O Family Water Park. -NRH2O's 2022 Season is in full swing and open seven days a week, after only being open on the weekends since May 7, 2022. Attendance has been very good since their opening. -The Music Festival for 2022 was a success and registrations for the 2023 event are already taking place. -There will only be one fireworks show this year that will take place on July 23. NRH2O is also adding a drone show to the summer schedule on July 9. -NRH2O is gearing up for their 13th year of the World's Largest Swim Lesson which will take place on Thursday, June 23. This is a global event and NRH2O is one of the few locations in the world that have participated consistently. -Kevin Parsons, Water Park Maintenance Supervisor, has completed his CPO (Certified Pool Operator) Instructor Certification. All eight of NRH2O's full time team are certified as CPO's. D.2 PARKS CAPITAL PROJECTS UPDATE Ms. Adrien Pekurney, Director, provided an update on Capital Projects. June 06, 2022 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 5 -Michael Wilson will be starting as the Park Planning Manager on June 13. He previously worked for NRH several years ago as the Assistant Park Planner. -NRH Active Transportation Projects for Trails/On-Road Safety which consists of 12 sub-projects is nearing completion. There are currently four projects that are not complete yet. Contractors have had a few delays due to supply chain issues; however, they expect to have the projects complete by the end of June 2022. -Green Valley Raceway Historical Area is one of the upcoming projects that staff will be focusing on. -The Richfield Park Tennis/Pickleball Court Replacement project was awarded to T-Bar Fence & Tennis Courts at the May 18 Council meeting. -Adventure World Playground Phase 2 primarily consists of adding a new irrigation system. Staff is currently seeking quotes for the project and work is estimated to begin in July 2022. D.3 PARKS MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS UPDATE Mr. Gary Bechthold, Parks Superintendent, provided an update on parks maintenance and operations activities. -There has been an increase of graffiti and vandalism in the last few months throughout the park system. It does not appear to be gang-related and staff is removing it as soon as it is discovered. -Park staff has been focusing on cleaning up the fence and trees lines along the trails, specifically John Barfield and Cotton Belt Trails. -Even though Spring sports leagues are winding down, staff is already working on field renovations for upcoming summer tournaments and training camps. -Algae and aquatic chemical applications are being applied to the ponds at HomeTown, Linda Spurlock and Green Valley Parks. -Playground fall zone materials have been installed at several park playgrounds. -Park staff assisted with numerous activities over the last few months, such as Sounds of Spring and the Mayor's Bike Ride. -The general mowing contractor is on schedule with no issues reported. June 06, 2022 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Page 3 of 5 -Gary sent out kudos to the in-house Median and Right-of-Way mowing crew for the great job they have been doing. The employees are Jason Smith, Jacob Young and Kyle Itoka. D.4 NRH CENTRE, GRAND HALL, ATHLETICS, SENIOR CENTER, RICHLAND TENNIS CENTER, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES UPDATE Mr. Antonio Evangelista, Recreation Operations Manger, provided an update on activities at the NRH Centre, Grand Hall, Senior Center, Richland Tennis Center as well as programs and services. -The NRH Centre is running their 10th Anniversary membership specials and they are seeing a good return on that campaign. -Summer youth camps are open for enrollment. Camp NRH began on May 31 and will run for ten consecutive weeks. It is at 98% registration capacity with 1,058 kids registered out of a possible 1,080. -The Grand Hall is wrapping up a busy couple of months with over 60 events in April and May. April 2022 set a record for the most revenue collected in a single month. -Athletics is having a very successful 2022 with all of the leagues offered. Coed volleyball continues to sell out and Average Joe's basketball is set to return this summer. Tournaments continue at Walker's Creek Park as well as Northfield Park. -The NRH Senior Center Health Fair was held on May 25 with over 300 in attendance and 58 health-related vendors. Their Inaugural Plant Swap Soiree was held on March 24. This was an opportunity to swap various plants and interact with other green thumb enthusiasts. The senior center also introduced their new website on June 1, www.n rhsen iorcenter.com -Richland Tennis Center is staying on track with their record year in 2021. They are gearing up for their summer programs which include junior camps and junior/adult classes. -Sounds of Spring Concert Series was a great success averaging 800-1500 people each week over the five consecutive Friday nights between April 22 and May 20. -The NRH Art Walk Project at the Adventure World Boardwalk has recently been installed. You can learn about the featured artists by scanning the QR code on their plaque. -Iron Horse is now being managed by KemperSports Management (KSM). They have June 06, 2022 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Page 4 of 5 brought in a team of managers from their corporate office as well as other staff members to assist with the transition. NRH Parks and Recreation team is working with them to address deferred maintenance issues, equipment needs and continued improvement of course conditions. Russell Bunch joined the team mid-May as the Food and Beverage Manager and they hope to expand those operations over the coming months. E.
