FOR THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS,
HELD AT THE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS CITY HALL

The Keep North Richland Hills Beautiful Commission of the City of North Richland Hills, Texas met
for a meeting on the 19th day of September 2023 at 5:45 p.m. in the Neighborhood Services
Conference Room at City Hall.
A. CALL TO ORDER
Kathy Luppy called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.

B.1 PUPLIC COMMENT
No citizens present for Public Comment.
C. ACTION ITEMS
C.1 Approve minutes of the September 19, 2023 Keep NRH Beautiful Meeting.
Donah Tyner motioned to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded by Bill
Whitsett. The Commission then approved the minutes unanimously.
D. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS
D.1 Discuss the Results of the 2023 Trash Bash
The Trash Bash was held on September 23, 2023. Kristin James reported that 205
volunteers participated in the event. Twenty-seven miles of roadways, trails, and waterways
were cleaned. There were 168 bags of trach collected, which equates to approximately 4,200
pounds of trash. The picnic was a success and it seemed that everyone had a great time and
enjoyed the event overall.

D.2 Judge the Jump Start Your Garden Grant Program Applications
Kristin James handed out a packet to each of the commissioners that contained all of the
applications received. The Commission members took approximately 20 minutes to read
through them all before discussion. The Commission concluded that Mullendore Elementary,
The Academy at Carrie Francis Thomas Elementary, and Foster Village were most
deserving of the grant and would utilize the money most effectively. Kristin James stated that
she would reach out to each of the schools to coordinate getting the grant money to them
and also post the winners to social media the next day.
D.3 Discuss the KNRHB School Programming
The Commission will be hosting a class for the second graders at Foster Village on November
17, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. There will be four sessions, each lasting approximately
30-45 minutes. The session will cover recycling education. Each class will be read a book
about recycling, do a trash/recycling relay, and then make toilet paper roll thankful turkeys.
Kristin James stated that she would make sure all the supplies were ready for the event and
asked Commission members to bring clean recycling and trash items for the relay. Chair
Luppy state that she would bring the book for the event. Kristin James will send out and email
prior to the event with specific details and any additional requests.
D.4 Discuss Classes and Schedule for 2023
Mrs. James presented the calendar for 2023:
Virtual — Backyard Greenhouse — October 19 @ 6 pm
KNRHB Meeting — NO NOVEMBER MEETING UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NEEDED
Virtual — Trees for North Texas — November 2 @ 6 pm
Christmas Light Judging — December 10 & 11
Virtual — Landscape Design Basics — December 14 @ 6 pm
Additional classes will be added to this calendar throughout the year.
E. ADJOURNMENT
