HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2025-08-21 Minutes MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS HELD IN THE LIBRARY BOARD ROOM LOCATED AT 9015 GRAND AVENUE August 21, 2025 Board Participants: Kathy Antropik Chair, Place 3 Staci Pope Board Member, Place 1 Tyler Chambers Board Member, Place 4 Erin Rodriguez Board Member, Place 5 Deborah Smith Board Member, Place 6 Stacy Herron Board Member, Place 7 Lo Linford Board Member, Alternate Absent: Holly Mitchell Board Member, Place 2 Staff Participants: Cecilia Barham Library Director Kinsey Peresh Librarian Cathy McNeely Library Clerk CALL TO ORDER Chairwoman Kathy Antropik called the meeting to order on August 21, 2025, at 6:00 pm. PUBLIC COMMENTS This meeting had no public comments. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ms. Rodriguez moved to accept the minutes, Ms. Smith seconded, and the minutes were unanimously approved. NEW BOARD MEMBERS INTRODUCTION Ms. Barham introduced new board members Staci Pope (place 1) and Lo Linford (Alternate), who briefly talked about themselves and met the board and library staff. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Ms. Barham reviewed the library's key performance indicators from May-July 2025 and answered questions. REPORT ON PROGRAMS AND EVENTS Ms. Barham reported on the 2025 Mayor Summer Reading Club highlights: • Over 95,000 hours read and a total of 6,612 people attended the programs, 81 of them exclusively for children. A survey was conducted with participants and 75% said they read more as a result of our reading program, 86% improved their reading skills, and 100% would return. Ms. Barham also announced the 2026 theme: Unearth a story. And upcoming Library events, including: • Mapping the Journey series on 9/8, 9/15, and 9/22 at 2:00pm. • Pokemon Club on 9/9, from 4:00-6:00pm. • Sombati World Music performance on 9/20 at 3:00pm. • Joyful Paint Along on 10/28 at 6:00pm. CAPITAL PROJECTS PROPOSAL Ms. Barham informed that a bond proposal for 2026 is being considered by a capital project advisory committee. The capital improvements will possibly include expansion of the community room to accommodate larger events and programs, more study rooms on the first floor, shifting The Maker Spot to the first floor and all adult collection to the second floor. Ms. Barham will present the floor plan and proposed bond budget in the upcoming board meetings. PERSONNEL UPDATE Ms. Barham introduced Kinsey Peresh, who will be the new Children department supervisor. The Adult Services department will open a position for Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.
