HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 0100 ORDINANCE NO. 1,12) '- AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO PLACE STOP SIGNS IN SPECIFIED AREAS; DEFINING TYPE OF STOP SIGNS; AND REQUIRING OBEDIENCE THERETO; AND PLACING A PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO OBEY SAID SIGNS A T FROM ONE DOLLAR ($l.OO) TO TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00). BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, THAT: I The Chief of Police shall determine and designate the character or type of all official traffic signs and signals. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained all such official traffic signs and signals. All such signs and signals required here- under for a particular purpose shall, so far as practicable, be uniform as to type and location throughout the city. il It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to disobey the instructions of any official traffic sign, signal or markings placed in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, unless otherwise directed by a police officer. III The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to determine and designate inter- sections where particular hazards exist, and to determine whether vehicles shall stop at one ore more intrances to any such stop intersection and shall erect a stop sign at every place where a stop is required. IV Every sign erected pursuant to the preceeding section of this ordinance shall bear the word "STOP" in letters not less than six (~) inches in height, and such sign shall at nighttime be easily illuminated by headlights of an approaching vehicle. Every stop sign shall be located as near as practicable at the nearest line of the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none, at the nearest line of the roadway. v It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully deface, injure. move, obstruct or interfer with any official traff~c sign or signal. VI Any person, firm or corporation violating or failing to comply with any provision of this ordinance shall be fined not less than One Dollar ($1.00) and not more than Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) for each offense, and a separate offense shall be deemed committed for each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. VII All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance shall be and are hereby repealed.
