HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1996-032 RESOLUTION NO. 96-32 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF A MULTI-COUNTY TOLLWAY AUTHORITY TO CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT, CONSTRUCTION, AND OPERATION OF TOLLWAYS IN THE DALLAS-FORT WORTH REGION. WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Council, comprised primarily of local elected officials, is the transportation policy body associated with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) designated by the Governor of Texas in accordance with federal law: and, WHEREAS, Mayor Tommy Brown represents North Richland Hills and the Cities of Haltom City, Keller, and Watauga as a voting delegate on the Regional Transportation Council; and, WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Council is charged with the responsibility of preparing and maintaining the Regional Transportation Plan for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area; and, WHEREAS, the Mobility 2010 Plan Update: The Re9ional Transportation Plan for North Central Texas, adopted by the Regional Transportation Council in October 1993, is the financially constrained regional transportation plan for the Dallas-Fort Worth Area and includes $15.2 billion in transportation improvements aimed at preserving and improving mobility in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area; and, WHEREAS, toll roads represent an over $1 billion element of the Mobility 2010 Plan Update; and, WHEREAS, it is critical to the mobility of the region that the current momentum on toll road implementation be maintained; and, WHEREAS, the Texas Turnpike Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation are currently under review by the Sunset Advisory Commission, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: Section 1. The City of North Richland Hills supports the concept of a regional toll road authority in North Central Texas. Section 2. The details for future development of this multi- county authority be left under the consultation and leadership of the County Judges of Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant Counties. Section 3. This resolution be transmitted to the Regional Transportation Council, the Texas Turnpike Authority and the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. Section 4. This resolution shall be in effect immediately upon its adoption.
