HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1995-014 RESOLUTION NO. 95-14 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUPPORT FOR APPOINTMENT OF A REPRESENTATIVE FROM NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS TO THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION WHEREAS, the Texas Transportation Commission is the governing body for the expenditure of all federal and state highway transportation funds in the State; and WHEREAS, a vacancy currently exists on the Texas Transportation Commission; and WHEREAS, the North Central Texas region has not been represented on the Texas Transportation Commission since 1991; and WHEREAS, the Dallas-Fort Worth region represents 4.2 million people; lead the State and nation in economic development and job creation; and has the largest share of transportation needs in Texas, requiring a Commissioner responsive to those transportation needs; and WHEREAS, transportation projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth region have historically been underfunded relative to the other urban areas in Texas; and WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Council, the regional transportation policy body of North Central Texas, comprised primarily of local elected officials, has requested local governments in the region to take a position supporting the appointment of a representative to the Texas Transportation Commission from the North Central Texas area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: Section 1. The City of North Richland Hills, in cooperation with the Regional Transportation Council, and other cities and counties in the North Central Texas region, strongly recommends that Governor George Bush appoint a representative to the Texas Transportation Commission from the North Central Texas region.
